Elizabeth Fry Society of Northwestern Ontario A vibrant charitable org that supports/advocates for women+ who are criminalized or may be at risk.

The Elizabeth Fry Society of Northwestern Ontario is a charitable, non-profit organization. We are the only social service agency in Thunder Bay with a specific mandate to provide programs and services for criminalized women and gender diverse people. We have a 4 bed transition house and our 3 system navigators help clients access housing, food, clothing and a variety of social services. Our progr

ams include jail visitation, court support, community reintegration, art and cultural programs, meditation and mindfulness, yoga and a book club. We believe that women and gender diverse people who have been marginalized, criminalized and imprisoned are in need of community support, counseling and supervision to assist with community integration. In this way we are helping reduce recidivism and the costs of keeping people in prisons.

It's a day of women supporting women and we have received a donation from Dawson Trail Craft Brewery and Lakehead Beer Company from their collaboration of "Better Together" a beer crafted and designed by women in our community. Their generosity and friendship is another example of women supporting women. These partnerships help support the communities we serve. When we all work together we can help make a difference and build equity in our systems that try to restrict opportunities. 💚💚💚💚

EFSNWO is very grateful to have met with Cindy Figus (president) and Cheryl Ball (governor) from Thunder Bay Soroptimist International Friendship Garden. Their organization was one of the first to support the community we serve with housing opportunities for women back in 1958. Their support for EFSNWO is meaningful as we now have housing for 36 women in our community. Can you believe it took 65 years to have housing specifically for women and gender diverse people in our community. Their donation of $1400.00 will help support the day to day work we are doing. Thank You for your kindness, the lesson in history and women supporting women!
