Hope Air is Canada’s only national charity providing free travel and accommodations for Canadians in financial need who must access medical care far from home. Since its inception in 1986, Hope Air has provided approximately 150,000 travel arrangements for patients regardless of age or medical need. For people living on a low income in small and rural communities, distance and cost are very real b

arriers to them accessing vital medical care. Hope Air is a unique and essential part of our Canadian healthcare system. Without the access Hope Air provides, our national system of universal healthcare coverage would fall short of its promise. Hope Air has been chosen as one of Canada’s best 100 charities by Maclean’s magazine, MoneySense magazine and Charity Intelligence based on efficiency, transparency and need.

For Rita, accessing cancer treatment meant travelling 500 km from her home in Kimberley, BC, to Kelowna.

After a breast cancer diagnosis at 45, she faced a year of chemotherapy, surgery and radiation, along with the added stress and cost of travelling long distances for care.

Through Hope Air, Rita was able to fly directly between Cranbrook and Kelowna, making an already difficult year a little easier.

We are proud to celebrate five outstanding Hope Air volunteers who were recently recognized with Ontario Volunteer Service Awards for their dedication and service.

Volunteer Pilots Lee Arsenault, Marilyn Staig, Sylvio Roy, and Kyle Jenkin, and Client Care Volunteer Laura Comin, were honoured for the time, care, and commitment they have given to helping Canadians access the healthcare they need, no matter how far from home.

We are deeply grateful to all five for sharing their time, knowledge, and passion with Hope Air. Their contributions make a meaningful difference in the lives of the patients and families we serve.

Access to healthcare should never depend on where you live. For CAA Club Group and CEO Jay Woo, helping Canadians overcome that barrier has been a commitment for many years.

As Hope Air celebrates 40 years of service, we’re proud to recognize CAA Club Group and Jay Woo as Hope Air Patrons, our highest distinction. Their ongoing generosity and leadership have helped patients across Canada get to the medical care they need, no matter the distance.

Through their annual charity golf tournament alone, CAA Club Group and its partners have raised more than $2 million for Hope Air since 2017. Their commitment continues to grow through initiatives like Jaunt for Hope Air, bringing even more people together in support of patients and families.

From Halifax to Sudbury, the Give Hope Wings Expedition brought together pilots, participants, community leaders and supporters across the country, all with one shared goal: helping Canadians get to the care they need, no matter how far from home it may be.

Along the way, we celebrated longtime supporters, met incredible communities, shared patient stories and saw firsthand what can happen when people come together for a cause that matters.

Together, we reached something pretty incredible: our $400,000 fundraising goal.

When Pierrette was diagnosed with melanoma in 2024, accessing the care she needed meant travelling nearly 400 km from her home in Astorville, ON, to Toronto.

With treatment requiring frequent trips, the costs and logistics of transportation, lodging, meals and time away from home quickly became overwhelming.

After learning about Hope Air from a healthcare professional, Pierrette received support through both commercial flights and volunteer pilots. That support helped ease the burden of travelling for care during an already difficult time.

Every pull helps bring patients closer to care. This fall, teams across six Canadian airports will take hold of the line and put their strength to the test, hauling 60,000 pounds of heavy machinery in support of Hope Air patients. This year we are hauling in:

Toronto - September 12 (SOLD OUT!)
Kelowna - September 15
Vancouver - September 22
Calgary - September 23
Edmonton - September 28
St. John's - October 2

“With my single income as a mother of two, I would have had to ask or borrow money from family to be able to take my child to the hospital”

At just five years old, Avery was diagnosed with a rare heart condition requiring specialized care in Vancouver, more than 1,500 kilometres from her home in Dease Lake, BC.

For her mom, Shiela, travelling such a distance each year for Avery’s care was overwhelming and costly. The long road journey brought uncertainty, from changing weather to road closures and limited cell service.

After being connected to Hope Air through BC Children’s Hospital, Avery and her family have been able to travel safely and reliably for her annual appointments.

For Carol, a cancer diagnosis brought fear and uncertainty. Travelling hundreds of kilometres from her home in Cranbrook to Kelowna for care added another challenge to an already difficult journey.

When she learned she would need to travel for appointments and treatment, the logistics felt impossible. With support from Hope Air, Carol was able to access the care she needed without the added burden of a long drive.
