This week, we were proud to be part of presenting Northumberland Fare Share Food Bank with 1,200 kilograms of chicken through our CFO Cares Chicken Program, alongside Minister David Piccini, and our dedicated partners Chicken Farmers of Ontario! This donation will ensure that people and families facing hunger throughout the region have access to healthy, Ontario-grown chicken.

Thank you to Chicken Farmers of Ontario for making this possible and to Minister Piccini for taking the time to connect with our teams and discuss how the food bank is making a difference for those in need locally.

It’s amazing to see the difference neighbours helping their neighbours in need can make. Our partners at Ontario Power Generation are just one example of the impact collaboration can have, increasing access to healthy food, strengthening local communities, and creating meaningful solutions.

Our innovative Farm to Food Program is made possible with their support. In partnership with UHC- Hub of Opportunities, local Ontario produce is transformed into healthy prepared meals, such as soup, at UHC’s state-of-the-art kitchen facilities.

This approach reduced food waste, creates local employment opportunities for culinary apprentices, and increases the amount of ready-to-share food available to communities.

In our first guest blog, Kate Williams, a nutrition student at the University of Guelph of Guelph shares how her experience working at Feed Halton, a member of Feed Ontario’s network, has changed the way she looks at her work as a future dietician.

“My education has taught me how important nutrition is for health. FeedHalton has shown me that nutrition is more than just education and counselling. It also means understanding and supporting food systems that make healthy food more accessible for everyone.”

Yesterday we were proud to join The Gananoque and Area Food Bank to welcome MPP Hon. Steve Clark for a tour of the food bank. This visit offered an opportunity to discuss the challenges people and families across Ontario are facing, while highlighting the incredible work local food banks, staff, and volunteers are doing every day.
