Yesterday we were proud to attend the opening of Ontario’s fourth Metro’s Shared Kitchen at Kerr Street Mission in Oakville!

Feed Ontario and Metro Ontario supported Kerr Street Mission in upgrading their kitchen facilities, allowing the food bank to expand its culinary programming, education initiatives, and community outreach across Oakville. The kitchen will support prepared meals, youth and seniors programming, and partnerships with local groups that are all aimed at fostering connection and belonging through food.

Congratulations to Kerr Street Mission for bringing this amazing project to life and thank you to Metro for making initiatives like this possible across the province!

“No child should have to wonder where their next meal is coming from. And yet, 1 in 3 food bank visitors in Ontario are children.”

In a new blog post to mark World Hunger Day, our CEO Carolyn Stewart writes about how many families often have no choice but to turn to food banks to make sure their kids have enough to eat, especially during the summer months when important supports like school breakfast programs disappear.

Advocating for change that will make it possible for every Ontarian to afford their basic needs is essential as we work toward a future where no one needs to turn to a food bank to get by.

To do this, we bring food bank visitors’ lived experiences, along with our real-time food bank use data and insights into policy solutions, to discussions with our elected representatives, so fewer people need to turn to food banks in the future.
