A huge thank you to CMI Financial Group Ltd. for being Feed Ontario’s Hunger Action Month sponsor this September!

For the past five years, CMI has been a valued partner in our work to end hunger in Ontario. Through their incredible generosity, they have helped provide over 200,000 meals for Ontarians facing food insecurity — a remarkable impact that will be felt by communities across the province.

This September, CMI also helped shine a light on the realities of hunger in Ontario and the importance of understanding food insecurity in our own communities.

More people are struggling to afford basic necessities like food and housing - and are forced to make impossible choices just to get by. Food Banks Canada's latest HungerCount Report shows that as incomes continue to fall further behind the cost of living, more adults, seniors, and even children across the country need to rely on food banks to make it through the month.

As Ontarians prepare to head to the polls for this year's municipal election, conversations across the province are focused on the issues related to affordability and the cost of living.

Across Ontario, the rising cost of housing and other essentials is putting increasing pressure on households and making it harder for people to meet their basic needs. For a growing number of communities, that pressure is showing up at their local food bank.

But while hunger is felt locally, communities can't solve hunger alone.

Last week we were proud to meet with MPP Joseph Racinsky to discuss the challenges local residents in Wellington-Halton Hills are facing, along with how the dedicated work of food banks helps to support those in need. During our visit, we also had the opportunity to highlight the incredible work food banks in our network are doing in communities across the province.

Food banks are working hard to meet the growing need in their communities, and as a part of our Feed Possibility pillar, each year we provide food banks with grant funding to undertake new and necessary projects to support people and families facing hunger.

In 2025, our grants made sure food banks could improve visitor experiences and inventory management, create new programs that bring community members together, and receive more healthy options like chicken, beef, vegetables, eggs, and milk. The projects funded allowed for improved safety, increased accessibility, and for volunteers to be more adequately supported.
