The District of Tumbler Ridge has expressed interest in collaborating with BC Wildfire Service to propose a prescribed burn in the 2026 operational season.

Please review the attached imagery for an idea of the location of the proposed prescribed burn. At this time, the project is referred to as the "Tumbler North" proposed prescribed burn.

This project will be presented to Council at the February 2nd Council meeting and if accepted will be brought forward to additional community engagement sessions.

Please note, the above presentations are to serve as an introduction to the Tumbler North proposed prescribed burn and to review preliminary information with community members. Additional open house presentations will be advertised & held upon further development and approval of a final Burn Plan.

We welcome the communities feedback, questions and concerns. Please do not hesitate to reach out via email at [email protected] or phone at 250-401-1754.

The District of Tumbler Ridge resides within the Dawson Creek Fire Zone and therefore Category 1 (campfires) fires remain prohibited within the municipal boundary at this time. This applies to Tiki and similar kinds of torches, Chimineas, Outdoor stoves or other portable campfire apparatus without a CSA or ULC rating, Fireworks, including firecrackers, Sky Lanterns, Burn Barrels or Burn Cages of any size or description, Binary exploding targets, and Category 2 and 3 open fires.

Effective at 12 p.m. (noon) PDT on Sept. 23, 2025, the Category 1 Open Fire (campfires) prohibition will be rescinded in some areas of the Prince George Fire Centre. Campfires will be permitted in the Prince George Fire Zone, Robson Valley Fire Zone, VanJam Fire Zone and Mackenzie Fire Zone.

Campfires remain prohibited in the Fort St. John Fire Zone, Dawson Creek Fire Zone and Fort Nelson Fire Zone. This prohibition applies to campfires (Category 1) as defined in the Wildfire Regulation.

Category 2 and 3 open fire prohibitions remain in place for the Prince George Fire Centre.

Every exterior door plays a role in your home’s resiliency in the face of wildfire. If the weather stripping is damaged, or if the door materials are not designed for fire resistance, embers can still find a way inside.

As we head into fall, take time to check the doors around your home. Replace worn or missing weather stripping, and make sure all entry and garage doors are fire-rated and properly sealed. Small actions like these add up to greater wildfire resiliency.

❄️ Snow-In-Summer is this month’s fire-resistant plant!

True to its name, this hardy groundcover stands out with blankets of snowy-white flowers in spring and early summer, followed by eye-catching silvery leaves for the rest of the year.

With a low-growing habit and low flammability, it’s an excellent choice for fire-resistant living mulch and a great replacement for bark mulch in the Intermediate Zone.
