We want to extend a HUGE thank you to everyone who came to our 30th anniversary Open House this afternoon! We will be sharing pictures from the event as we get them, but we wanted to share our appreciation for a few things first!
-Our current and former students who were brave enough to share their story with an audience and remind us why Taking Charge! is so special
-Former staff and board members who came back to celebrate with us as a part of our legacy

It's Open House Day!! We are almost ready to welcome our community into our building to celebrate 30 years of supporting single women and parents on their journey to achieving their dreams. Our Open House will be held from 11:30 to 1:30 today at our building at 276 Colony Street.

Our magnificent balloon bouquet was made by Simply Jenny Designs and makes our staircase look super festive for such an amazing milestone.

A big thanks to Parc La Salle School for donating a large amount of children's books to Taking Charge! With these donations, we were able to start a children's lending library in our building, as well as create reading packages for the children in our daycare to take home and enjoy! As an adult learning and literacy centre, we know the immense benefit of reading to and with children, and we appreciate your support in allowing us to offer so many amazing books to our families.

Our 30th anniversary Open House is one week away! We've been busy preparing to welcome our community into our building and celebrate three decades of providing personal development and academic upgrading to hundreds of students and helping people achieve their dreams.

Thanks to the Winnipeg Guardian for highlighting Taking Charge! and the work we are so proud to do in our community every day!

For 30 years, Taking Charge! has been quietly changing lives in Winnipeg — one single parent at a time. What began in 1995 as a joint government pilot project has grown into a full-service educational and personal development program that meets participants exactly where they are, offering a path to a Mature Grade 12, workplace readiness, counselling, and computer skills training, all under one roof. With on-site licensed childcare for infants through preschool-aged children, the organization removes one of the most significant barriers standing between a parent and their future.

Our students and staff at Taking Charge! braved the wet and windy weather yesterday to participate in Moose Hide Campaign Walk to End Violence. We were honoured to join so many other people in the desire to end violence in our communities and ensure everyone can live in safety and security.

It's finally spring, so today we're throwing it back to this 2014 picture of the plants in our front lobby. The plants create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for anyone coming to Taking Charge!, and, thanks to a lot of sunshine and the green thumbs of some of Taking Charge!'s staff, many of these same plants still sit in our lobby twelve years later! Our plants have also provided many offshoots that our staff and students have been able to take home and enjoy a bit of nature into their living space!
