LIGHT AND MEMORY: A solo exhibition by Anastasiia Boiko
Bournemouth Library 9 - 22 April 2026 (Free admission)

Artist biography:
"Anastasiia Boiko was born in the beautiful "City of Mary" - Mariupol, Ukraine. From an early age she showed a strong love for drawing. At the age of four she began attending art classes, and at eight she entered the Mariupol School of Arts. During her studies she participated in city and regional competitions and held her first solo exhibition at the age of nine.

In March 2022, when Mariupol came under attack, Anastasiia and her family were forced to leave their home and country, leaving behind almost all of her paintings. She managed to save only a few drawings created in a basement during the shelling of the city, illuminated by a small handmade lamp.

Since April 2022 Anastasiia has been living in Poole, England. Her works have received international recognition, including 2nd place at the Golden Time Talent competition. In 2024 she participated in the International Talent Festival at The Shaw Theatre in London, and in 2025 in the Golden Time Talent Grand Final in London.

Anastasiia has also taken part in art exhibitions in London, Poole and Limerick (Ireland).

On 3 April 2025 her works were presented at the exhibition "Ukraine: Armoured Warfare in the Modern World" at the Tank Museum in Dorset.

Alongside art, Anastasiia has practiced rhythmic gymnastics since the age of four. In 2024 she became a bronze and silver medallist at the Junior English Championships as part of a junior group.

In 2025 Anastasiia achieved Silver Level (Grade 2) and successfully completed the Gymnastics Helper course organised by British Gymnastics.

Today Anastasiia continues to study, create and dream. Her greatest dream is to have her own art studio, where she will be able to continue developing her artistic voice and creating new works."

WORDS FOR WELLBEING –
AN AFTERNOON OF POETRY ON THE THEME OF DANCE
(Free event at Bournemouth Library Friday 17th April 2.30 - 4pm. Booking essential.*)

Join poets from the Words for Wellbeing writing group for an inspiring afternoon of readings on the theme of ‘dance’, spinning out of a recent collaboration with Pavilion Dance South West , where members of the group were invited to attend a rehearsal workshop for the dance/poetry fusion, ‘One Foot in the Dark’. This special session sparked a series of poems written in response to the performance that will be displayed at Pavilion Dance South West from 20th-30th April in a shared celebration of movement and words.

In this special reading, members of the group will share their poems for the first time, presenting their unique interpretations and impressions from the session, drawing on movement and music, metaphor, the rhythms of everyday life, and the stories our bodies tell.

The event will also include an open-mic session, offering an opportunity for you to step up and share your own dance-inspired poetry, so bring along a poem or two, listen, share, and enjoy an afternoon of creativity and community celebrating the vibrant connection between poetry and dance.

*To book a free space, see library staff, call us on 01202 127000 or email [email protected]

🐦 They're back! 🐦

Our team are delighted by the return of Ospreys CJ7 and 022 to Poole Harbour for the 5th year running!

Library regulars will know we've been following Birds of Poole Harbour's Osprey Translocation Plan eagerly over the years, and just this month we were lucky enough to host a talk with the charity.

We'll once again be showing the Poole Harbour Osprey Nest live-feed on our second floor throughout the season. You can follow it for yourself on their Youtube channel too.

In other news for bird lovers, the RSPB are in the library until 5 today (Friday 27th March) for an information drop-in, so come along and say hi!

The eagle-eyed amongst you will have noticed our David Attenborough standee, affectionately dubbed 'David Flattenborough', in the photo. He'll be popping up again when we celebrate the great man's centenary this May. More soon...
