The order becomes effective on 30th September 2026 and will remain in force for eighteen months.

The works are expected to commence on 5th October 2026 and last for 3 days to enable Bristol Water to carry out new water supply works.

The contractor has indicated that access for Emergency Services through the site is not permitted on this occasion.

The works are expected to commence on 28th September 2026 and last for 5 days (07:30 - 18:00) to enable Heidelberg to carry out prep and resurfacing works on behalf of Somerset Council.

The contractor has indicated that access for Emergency Services through the site is permitted on this occasion.

Dear Parishioners,

Meare Parish Council are aware of a series of recent Facebook posts regarding the request to remove a flower trough and two barrels from the verges in Meare.
The Parish Council would like to make the following statement and will not be commenting any further.

Meare Parish Council contacted the Meare and Westhay Fundraising Team earlier this year to ask whether they intended to continue maintaining the areas within the parish that they had previously looked after.
In July, Meare and Westhay Fundraising Team confirmed by email: “MWFT no longer maintains any areas within the parish”.
The Parish Council therefore requested that the trough and barrels be removed. This was a practical request to enable the Council’s contractors to carry out the necessary maintenance of these areas as efficiently and economically as possible, without obstructions, and thereby keep costs to parishioners as low as possible.
The Council understands that photographs showing the trough and barrels planted with flowers have been shared on social media. Those photographs show previous years and do not reflect their current condition or the current maintenance arrangements.
The Parish Council is simply seeking to ensure that the village common areas can be maintained appropriately and cost-effectively now that responsibility for their maintenance rests with the Council.

LOVE THIS SPACE - LEAVE NO TRACE!!

This is the message on the new signage at the picnic area in Westhay.
Unfortunately, some users of the area don't seem to think the message applies to them and sadly the fly tipping remains a problem.
If you see anyone fly tipping and you are able to, please take photos and report it via : [email protected]
