Everyone deserves a safe, secure and decent place to call home. Here in Lewisham, we want to support the responsible landlords who provide around 30% of homes in our borough get to grips with new legislation.

But we will not tolerate those who put renters at risk. This year, a landlord was fined £15,000 for operating several unlicensed properties in the borough. This was the final warning issued under our old policy, and fines will now be even tougher for those who fail to meet their legal responsibilities.

Unplug your v**e when it’s fully charged to reduce the risk of fire.

Rechargeable v**es contain batteries which can overheat when left charging for too long - and that means fire risk.

Are there empty or derelict houses in your street? Have you inherited a property which you can't afford to do up?

Next week is , and we are taking the opportunity to shout about our new empty homes strategy. We have lots of ways to support property owners to bring homes back into use and we will take enforcement action if empty properties fall into disrepair or cause problems for the local community.

For Empty Homes Week we are holding two surgeries for property owners and local residents to come and talk to our Empty Homes team to report derelict properties or find out what support we can offer.

The The Housing Ombudsman Service has updated its complaints process and will no longer accept new complaint enquiries by email.

Residents who wish to make a complaint must now use the Ombudsman’s online complaint form, which ensures all necessary information is collected from the start. The form guides residents to provide all the details the Ombudsman needs to understand the issue quickly. Email enquiries often miss key information, which can slow down the process and delay the support offered.

Residents who are unable to use the online form can scall 0300 111 3000. The Housing Ombudsman’s team will help submit the complaint over the phone or discuss alternative ways to get in touch.

This change does not affect any complaints that are already in progress.

Contact the Housing Ombudsman Service by filling in the online complaint form or emailing the team. Contact us today.
