Unfortunately, we've experienced issues today with a quad bike and a motorbike being ridden recklessly across the Recreation Ground, causing damage and creating a serious safety concern.

The police have been informed and are aware of the incident. The 3 individuals initially entered via the Lambs Lane entrance and showed little regard for other users of the Rec. Worryingly, they narrowly missed a member of staff on the pathway alongside the Village Hall.

If you see these vehicles at the Recreation Ground or elsewhere in the village, please report the sighting to the police and, where appropriate, let us know as well.

Thank you for helping us keep our community spaces safe and enjoyable for everyone.

June Full Council Meeting Update

Here are some of the key updates from this month's Full Council meeting:

👋 New councillor - We're pleased to welcome Kenny McGinn to the Council and look forward to working with him. This now brings us up to our full 15 members.

🏃 Leisure, Sport & Recreation Survey - We'll soon be launching a resident survey to gather views on potential improvements to leisure, sport and recreation facilities in the village. We're hoping to launch the survey at the Fen Edge Festival, so keep an eye out for further details and opportunities to have your say.

📹 Pavilion CCTV Upgrade - Following the recent CCTV upgrade at the Pavilion, we will also be installing a long-range camera to provide coverage across F2 (the cricket field).

🌳 Tree Works Approved - Following our latest tree health inspection, works have been approved on a number of trees across the village to help ensure they remain healthy and safe.

⚽ MUGA Opening Update - We're hoping to open the MUGA later this month, subject to the completion of line marking works. Unfortunately, these can only be carried out during suitable dry weather conditions. Keep an eye out for further news.

🚌 Victory Way / Lambs Lane Bus Shelter - The existing bus shelter will be replaced shortly. The current shelter is due to be removed at the end of the month, with a new base installed shortly afterwards. Please note there will be a period of approximately two weeks when no shelter will be available before the new shelter is installed.

🎾 Tennis Courts Transfer - We have now received the draft land transfer document for the tennis courts, which is currently under review.

County News – Foster Carers Needed - Several Cambridgeshire children need families to look after them on either a short-term or long-term basis. The more local foster carers there are, the more children can remain connected to their schools, friends and communities, rather than having to move elsewhere.

Our next Full Council meeting takes place on Tuesday 7th July at 7.15pm in the Village Hall. All welcome.

Today, members of the Cottenham Youth Council, Parish Council, and some fantastic local volunteers will be getting started on building our new sensory garden at The Pond site at the top of Broad Lane 🌿

Today’s work will mainly focus on the infrastructure and groundwork, with the planting planned for a few weeks’ time.

If you’re around and would like to lend a hand, we’d love to see you there! Bring along your gardening gloves, spade, shovel, rake, bucket - or simply come along with some community spirit and encouragement.

Every helping hand and bit of support will be hugely appreciated 💚

Following our May Full Council Meeting (our Annual Meeting), we wanted to share a quick update. The meeting is always quite admin-heavy, but there are still some important highlights to share:

We’re pleased to confirm that Tim Jones has been re-elected as Chair, with Tracy Hutchison continuing as Vice Chair.
We welcomed two new councillors, Mark Burton and Laura Cain – we’re looking forward to working with them.
Our annual internal audit has once again been passed with flying colours.
Council meetings will now start slightly earlier, at 7:15pm going forward.

On the projects front, the MUGA is nearly complete. Line marking is expected to take place in around four weeks, after which we’ll be able to open it for everyone to enjoy.

In terms of youth projects we've approved holding another Babysitting course and Generation Game.

You may have noticed the new planters along the High Street – now they’re all in place, we’re inviting local businesses or residents to “adopt” one to help with watering and general upkeep. If you’re interested, please contact Alice at [email protected].

Our next meeting will take place on Tuesday 2nd June at 7:15pm in the Village Hall. As always, members of the public are very welcome to attend.

Thank you for your continued support.
