This is just one of the lovely thank you cards and pictures that have been sent this year by the children who are supported through our First Steps projects in Haiti, Malawi, Romania, India and Tanzania. We are putting together a group to walk the Birmingham 10k on Sunday 3 May. Lots of people walk this event each year and we will be taking a steady pace enjoying the sights of Birmingham and the atmosphere of the day. Bring your friends and family and join us for a fun day out supporting People against Poverty. Join us for the second in our free online lunchtime series for 2026 where we are sharing more about our four core programmes and the projects we run under these.

This time hear about the projects under our ‘Building Skills’ programme - supporting children to access education, and young people and adults to achieve further education, or gain a vocational skill that will help them to provide for themselves, their families and sometimes even their wider community.

We are sew (!) delighted that we have been able to raise the money needed to train the next cohort of young tailors in Malawi.

Thank you to those of you who supported this project. The course will start in March and we look forward to bringing you updates on the tailors in due course.

We are so grateful to all of you who continue to support us in our mission to help people find a pathway out of poverty. These are very tough financial times for small charities and we have not been immune to these challenges. But by continuing to ensure we are as efficient as possible and through careful stewarding of our resources, we have not only been able to keep going, but were also able to help significantly more individuals, children and families in 2024-2025 than in the previous year. We are so grateful to fabulous sock company Socktopus, who have donated over 1000 pairs of thermal socks to People against Poverty for the second year running. Thank you Socktopus!

We have distributed the socks through partners in the South West and in Birmingham, to those living in temporary accommodation or on the streets, who have been struggling to keep warm in recent freezing temperatures.
