Southfield School

Southfield School Secondary Girls School for Years 7 to 11, with co-educational 6th Form.
Southfield aims to provide for the future needs of our students.

Southfield enjoys an enviable reputation as one of the highest performing schools in the area in terms of our academic results, however, we are striving to build upon this with the aim of becoming a ‘World Class School’. Careers and types of employment opportunities are evolving and changing continually. Some are yet to be created and so we see it as our obligation to prepare our students to be co

mpetitive in anticipation of the unknown. Therefore, our strong focus on academic attainment is equalled by our commitment to develop transferable skills and personal characteristics through the many opportunities we provide. We provide an education that prepares our young people for a future in which they will need to be adaptable, resourceful and ethical in facing complex challenges. Being a Southfield student will mean the chance to be successful and have a positive influence on the global community. We aim for all of our students to be able to make an impact and leave a positive imprint on the world. We nurture our students with the future in mind today. Our shared values of Optimism, Resilience, Balance, Individuality and Synergy are explained here: https://www.southfieldsch.co.uk/vision-values

In the final week before half term the History department took just over 80 Year 8 students to the The Black Country Living Museum

The trip is designed to complement the Industrial Revolution content in our History lessons.

We had an incredible time visiting the buildings of the Industrial Revolution, including back to back housing, outdoor privvies and various different work places.

Some of the employment opportunities included metal casting, chain making and nail making.

Some groups got to sit on the anchor from the Peaky Blinders film and we even managed a trip to the cinema!

Thank you to all our groups who demonstrated the attributes of doing things ‘the Southfield Way’!

A brilliant week in Science this week as our Year 7 groups got hands on with a real heart dissection! ❤️🔬

Students explored the structure of the heart, identified key chambers and vessels and linked their learning directly to how the circulatory system works with lots of excitement (and a few squeamish faces) along the way.

A huge thank you to our fantastic science staff for leading such engaging practical lessons, and to the parents who kindly donated hearts to support the experience.

Opportunities like this really help bring science to life for our students!

Finally a big well done to our students who approached this practical respectfully and responsibly.

Thank you to everyone who took part. Hopefully we have demonstrated walking to school is better for our health and the environment.

Have a great half term everyone!
