Knowing you have fire extinguishers on site is one thing, but knowing exactly what you have, where they are and when they may need replacing is another. A clear and up to date fire extinguisher asset list can help you keep track of every extinguisher across your premises, including its location, type, size, individual asset identification and service information. Importantly, an accurate asset list can also help with future budgeting and financial planning. By understanding the age and condition of your extinguishers and identifying when units are approaching the point where replacement may be required, you can plan ahead for potential costs rather than being caught by unexpected expenditure.

At Fireproof UK, we believe good fire safety isn't just about completing an annual service, it's about helping our clients understand, manage and plan for their fire protection requirements. That's why, when we carry out an extinguisher service for a client, we create a comprehensive extinguisher asset list free of charge. 0116 2766755 | [email protected]

We often think about keeping fire exits clear inside a building but what about once you step outside? Periods of heavy rain and bad weather can affect external escape routes, so it’s important to make sure people can still get safely away from the building in an emergency.

After heavy rain, take a few minutes to walk your full escape route, from the fire exit all the way to the assembly point.

Look out for:

🌧️ Standing water or localised flooding

🍂 Leaves, mud and debris creating slip hazards

🚪 External fire exits that are difficult to open

🚧 Obstructions along external escape routes

💡 External emergency lighting that may have been affected

🪧 Fire exit and assembly point signs that are still visible

🚶 Safe access all the way to the designated assembly point

A clear fire exit is only part of the journey. The entire escape route needs to get people to a place of safety. Next time it rains, don’t just look out of the window, walk your escape routes. 0116 2766755 | [email protected]

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the Responsible Person is the person who has legal responsibility for managing fire safety within a workplace or non-domestic premises. This could be the employer, owner, landlord or another person who has control of the premises. Their duties include ensuring a suitable and sufficient Fire Risk Assessment is completed and regularly reviewed, escape routes and fire exits are kept clear, appropriate fire safety systems and equipment are provided and maintained, employees receive suitable fire safety information and training, and any significant findings or required actions are properly recorded and addressed. Being the Responsible Person isn't simply a title, it comes with important legal responsibilities for protecting everyone who uses the premises. An annual fire extinguisher service is much more than simply adding a new service label. During our visit, our BAFE accredited technician will inspect and service your extinguishers in accordance with BS 5306-3, checking their condition, pressure or weight as appropriate, safety devices, tamper seals, operating components, hoses and nozzles, as well as looking for signs of damage, corrosion or deterioration. We’ll check that the extinguishers provided remain appropriate for the risks within each area, are correctly located and suitably identified, and highlight any equipment that requires further maintenance or replacement.

During the appointment, we’ll also create or update your site extinguisher asset list, providing a clear record of the type, location and service information for your equipment. This gives you better visibility of your fire safety assets and helps you plan and budget for future years, including identifying when replacement extinguishers are expected to become due.
Following the service, you'll have an up to date record of the equipment inspected and any recommendations or remedial actions identified. 0116 2766755 | [email protected]

Fire doors are an important part of a building’s passive fire protection, but they can only do their job effectively when the whole doorset is correctly installed and maintained. It’s not just the door itself that matters – the frame, hinges, door closer, intumescent and smoke seals, glazing, ironmongery and gaps around the door can all affect its performance. Something as simple as a damaged seal, excessive gap, faulty closer or damage to the door could compromise its effectiveness in the event of a fire. Regular inspection and maintenance can help identify these issues and ensure any necessary remedial works are addressed.

At Fireproof UK, we can assist with fire door inspections, remedial works and ongoing maintenance, helping to keep your fire doors doing the job they’re designed to do. Not sure where to start, speak with one of our trained team members for help. 0116 2766755 | [email protected]

This year marks a VERY special milestone for us … 30 years of Fireproof UK.

Founded in 1996 by husband and wife Gerry and Kerry, the Fireproof legacy began. Three decades later, we’re incredibly proud to still be a family run business, continuing to grow while holding on to the same values we started with.

Over the last 30 years, we’ve worked with some fantastic customers, built long-standing relationships, expanded our services and welcomed some brilliant people into the Fireproof team. Last weekend, we took some time out together to celebrate everything that has been achieved and, most importantly, the people who have helped make it possible.

A HUGE thank you to our team, customers, contractors and suppliers (past and present) for being part of our journey. But most of all, thank you to Gerry and Kerry for taking that leap back in 1996 and starting what has become Fireproof uk today. We are incredibly proud ❤

Are sprinkler systems really like the movies? Not quite! One of the biggest misconceptions is that every sprinkler head activates at the same time. In reality, sprinkler systems are heat-activated, meaning only the sprinkler closest to the fire will operate. This helps control or even extinguish the fire in its early stages, reducing fire spread, minimising property damage and, most importantly, protecting lives by giving people more time to evacuate safely. Hollywood adds the drama, but fire safety is all about the facts. If you'd like to find out more about sprinkler systems or ensure yours is properly maintained, Fireproof UK is here to help. 0116 2766755 | [email protected]

The answer for most businesses is yes. If you're responsible for a workplace, shop, office, warehouse, school, care home, HMO, block of flats etc, you are likely to have a legal duty under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 to ensure a suitable and sufficient Fire Risk Assessment is in place. A Fire Risk Assessment helps identify fire hazards, assess the risks to people, and ensure the correct fire safety measures are in place to protect lives and property. It's not just about complying with legislation, it's about giving you peace of mind that you're doing everything you can to keep people safe. (it tells you what you are doing and what you need to be doing to comply with fire safety). If you're unsure whether your premises require a Fire Risk Assessment or if your current assessment is due for review, get in touch with our friendly team today. 0116 2766755 | [email protected]
