CILIP is saddened to hear about the death of Dolly Parton.

Dolly was awarded a CILIP Honorary Fellowship in 2024 in recognition of her enormous and still growing positive impact on childrenā€™s reading in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, and Ireland through her Imagination Library that has gifted millions of books, for free, to millions of pre-school children since she started the scheme in 1995 in honour of her father who could not read and write.

As well as being an inspirational multi-million-selling singer-songwriter, actor, and humanitarian, we remember this positive and life-affirming generosity to ensure that generations will be supported into literacy - a wonderful legacy. Our thoughts are with her family.
