Corbett Community Library

Corbett Community Library We are a mainly volunteer-run and charity-funded centre - still providing the same library services, and more at that!

The Archibald Corbett Society and the Corbett Residents Association have joined forces to create the Corbett Community Library, Arts and Heritage Centre as a charity and taken over the management of Torridon Road Library from Lewisham Council. The Library has been developed into a community hub, the Corbett Community Centre, to promote the following charitable purposes: the advancement of educatio

n, the advancement of arts and heritage and the advancement of citizenship and community development for the benefit of residents living within the surrounding area with a specific emphasis on services for families and young and older people. The existing library service has been extended to encourage digital inclusion, provide weekly sessions for school groups and weekend tuition for school children and develop family and adult education facilities. The Library has become a centre for encouraging local residents to learn about the heritage of the area they reside in. The Charity has also advanced the arts through regular exhibitions promoting the work of local artists and craft makers, holding music recitals featuring local musicians and hosting performances. The Library is a Dementia Friendly Centre and holds activities for older people to include their carers and a number of advice services are available targeted at different age groups.

This is a mostly remote post, only needed to attend the library for four two-hour board meetings a year. Torridon Writers
Torridon Writers is a creative writing group which meets on the first Tuesday of every month. We take our writing seriously but we do it in a fun and gentle way. We experiment with all sorts of ways to write: poetry, stories, memories and anecdotes. Along the way we discover a lot about each other and different ways to express ourselves. We are a group of friends who support and care about one another as we make our way through the world of writing. We always welcome new members, whether you have written before or have never written a word.
