ANPI United Kingdom and Ireland Associazione N**ionale Partigiani d'Italia
United Kingdom and Ireland branch
Home of all antifascists since 1944

ANPI (Associazione N**ionale Partigiani d'Italia/National Association of the Partisans of Italy) was founded in Rome in 1944, when the Northern part of Italy was still under n**i & fascist occupation by volunteers (The Partisans) who had been fighting the war against fascism in Italy. ANPI was recognised as a charitable trust by the Italian State in 1945 and as the charity representing veterans of

the Resistance by the Italian Ministry of Defence in 1958 after they were formally acknowledged as part of the Italian Armed Forces. More recently, closer to our times, ANPI have been at the forefront of a few successful campaigns inside Italy: the 2006 and 2016 referenda to protect the Italian Constitution from attempted upheavals and the opposition to Bill 1360 equalling the fascists who had joined Mussolini and the Partisans who fought to liberate Italy from dictatorship. Along with its charitable mission, ANPI promotes the study of the history of the Second World War and keeping alive the spirit and the values of the Resistance among younger generations. The organisation have branches with over one hundred thousand members in most Italian towns and cities along with some major cities across Europe; membership is open to anyone sharing the mission and values of the organisation, in order to keep memory of the Resistance alive for future generations.

'We can be horrified by the alleged attempted murder (as sub judice laws demand it be described) in Belfast last Tuesday.

'But spare me the self-righteous indignation about immigration and the apparent motivations of Sudanese-born Hadi Alodid if you remained silent about what drove 18-year-old Alina Burns to attempt to decapitate a Kurdish barber with an axe in Bristol last August.

'If you don’t know who Alina Burns is – ask yourself why. A white British teenage girl radicalised by neo-N**i ideology tried to behead an innocent man in broad daylight, yet most people couldn’t pick her name out of a line-up.

'Does her story, and her 19.5-year term for a terrorism-motivated crime, not rock you to your core with the same revulsion now you know about it?'' 👇

The rioting in Belfast fits Britain’s now familiar routine of violent crimes followed by race riots.

While the government promises anti-immigration crackdowns, the rioters want to unleash their rage and terrorize minorities: jacobin.com/2026/06/uk-belfast-immigration-racism-pogrom

Now is our time to respond!

You will have heard of the Battle of Cable Street, where Oswald Mosely’s British Union of Facists (BUF) were stopped from marching down a street with numerous Jewish businesses and homes.

Less well known, but taking place ninety years ago, was the Battle of De Winton Field, in Tonypandy in the Rhondda.

On June 11th 1936, Oswald Mosely’s BUF had planned to march through Tonypandy. Largely a recruitment exercise, the fascists were met with a group of between 5,000 and 6,000 anti fascist miners and others.

There are events taking place in Tonypandy & around next weekend to commemorate those who stood up to the fascists 90 years ago. A plaque is going to be revealed. All anti facists (that should, of course, mean everyone) is welcome / croeso to come & join us.

'As the years rolled on, I watched LGBT pals smile wider as society advanced and bigotries fell away.

'Today, I see smiles vanish from the faces of trans people, in particular, as they’re hounded from pillar to post.' 👇
