🟩 Ukraine condemns Israel's mistreatment of detained Gaza activists
Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha calling it "incompatible with respect for human dignity, human rights, and international law."
🟩 Ukraine's MFA statement
"The footage from Ashdod showing the humiliating and degrading treatment of activists detained following the interception of the Gaza-bound flotilla is deeply disturbing.
Such treatment is unacceptable and incompatible with respect for human dignity, human rights, and international law. The public humiliation of detainees can never be justified.
The detained activists must be released and their safe return ensured, with a full respect for their rights and dignity."
🟩 Ukrainian participants of the flotilla
This year, Ukrainians also took part in the Global Sumud Flotilla, which was heading to Gaza with a humanitarian cargo. Ukraine was represented by sociologist Nina Potarska and left-wing activist Andriy Movchan.
The boat with Ukrainians on board was intercepted by Israeli forces in international waters near the island of Crete on May 29.
The activists were abducted and taken to a prison ship, where they spent 40 hours in harsh conditions. Under international pressure, Israel released the abductees to Greek authorities.
🟩 Tense relations between Kyiv and Jerusalem
Ukraine recognizes the Palestinian state and supports most pro-Palestinian UN resolutions. Kyiv does not recognize Israeli annexations that violate international law.
Israel has avoided condemning the annexation of Crimea, and after 2022, Israel did not join sanctions against Russia. Netanyahu has spoken from the Knesset podium about close ties with Putin.
90% of grain imports to Israel come from Russia, including grain stolen from the occupied territories. Ukraine and the EU have considered imposing sanctions against Israel.
