1-14 June is HiVis Fortnight. This is a national campaign celebrating reading and promoting library services for people with visual impairments. It's organised by Reading Sight, and this year’s theme is Go All In (https://goallin.org.uk/).
During the National Year of Reading it's particularly important that we use HiVis Fortnight to stress the importance of accessible libraries and reading.
At Maldon Library we want to signpost customers with visual impairments to the following services:
RNIB free talking book service - A free service for people whose sight impairment prevents or limits them from reading standard print.
Calibre Audio - provides a fantastic collection of over 14,500 audiobooks available free of charge to people in the UK living with a print disability.
Essex Sight Drop Ins: Essex Sight hold a monthly session Maldon the first Tuesday of the month https://libraries.essex.gov.uk/events/location/maldon/119

For children and young people there are:
Large Print titles
Giant Print and Braille picture books (held at Freebournes)
ClearVision books (print and braille combined; postal service signposted)
Bookstart – Booktouch (Baby and Treasure packs)
Audiobooks on CD (small collection)
E‑books, e‑audio, e‑comics and e‑magazines
RNIB free talking book service Free Talking Books (includes children and YA titles)
More information: https://libraries.essex.gov.uk/.../different-ways-of-reading.

Summer Holidays are nearly here!

We know how much your budding bookworms love taking part in the Summer Reading Challenge at Maldon Library—we can’t wait to welcome you all back and get started!
But what about your older ones? Would they like to try something new this year and be on the other side of the desk? Do they need some volunteering hours for their Duke of Edinburgh's award?

We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help hand out stickers and chat with younger readers about all the brilliant stories they’ve been enjoying. If you know someone who might be interested have a look on our website for the requirements.

Another fantastic turnout at Friendship Club!

We kept cool in the library and enjoyed a relaxed bracelet-making session. The fluffy beads proved especially popular, along with the adorable animal charms – a big hit with everyone!

We’d love to hear your thoughts – would you like to see this activity return during the Summer Holidays? Let us know in the comments below and give us a like 👍 to help us plan our summer programme!
