Today, Mr H and I went for a walk along the lanes of Alderwasley. It's such a beautiful place but the verges are strewn with cans, bottles, sweet wrappers and snack packets.
We picked up this lot in about 10 minutes over a couple of hundred yards. How can anyone be so disrespectful towards the environment we all share?

Are you a user of the Via Gellia A5012 between Cromford and Newhaven? From Monday, 16th March 2026, you'll find average speed cameras and changes to speed limits. These, and other measures, have been introduced to improve safety along this stretch of road which has seen 27 collisions and 42 injuries between 2023 and 2025.
Drive safely everyone.

I spent a lovely morning yesterday at Amber Valley Borough Council's Nature Network event. Organised by Sarah Hodgson, the excellent new officer for Climate & Biodiversity, hosted by Cllr Burslem and attended by several councillors from county, borough and parish councils, we met representatives of organisations doing great work for nature across the borough. So inspirational and positive to hear how individuals and small groups are making a difference.
Here I am with Green councillors who turned out in force to support an issue dear to our hearts.

… Of course the Green a party care about the environment!🌍 Hannah Spencer’s victory in Gorton and Denton was built on the issues people are facing every day — the cost of living, saving the NHS, and standing up for social justice. These aren’t separate from Green values — they are Green values.

Some journalists asked, “Don’t you care about the environment anymore?”

Of course we do — we’re the Green Party!

Social justice and climate justice go hand in hand. You can’t tackle the climate crisis without tackling inequality. And you can’t build a fairer society without protecting the natural world we all depend on.

That’s why Amber Valley Green councillors were out in force in Ripley today at the Amber Valley Network for Councillors and Community Groups. There, they discussed nature projects and opportunities to enhance biodiversity in the area — sharing ideas, successes and lessons learned so we can work together to preserve nature right across the borough.

A fairer society and a greener future go together. 🌍💚

Great to welcome Lian to County Hall. He will be a great addition to the Green Group here.

🌟 After a historic win over Reform last week, Councillor Lian Pizzey is at County Hall — and Horsley finally has a strong voice. 💚

We beat Reform in Horsley.
Now let’s beat them again in Gorton and Denton.

This is how we build real change from the ground up.
Donate to the crowdfunder and help power the next wins.

Zack is not talking about people who have worked hard, saved up, invested well and are comfortably off. He is talking about the 1% who have as much wealth as the bottom 50% of the population. In the UK, the richest 56 people now hold more wealth than 27 million combined, (Oxfam 19/01/2026 https://www.oxfam.org.uk/mc/ax2v6v/)
Meanwhile, all our public services are on their knees; there is no money for anything - not even the basics. We have to tackle inequality and start investing again in common goods.

Right now there are around 50 elderly and vulnerable people who are about to be evicted from their council-run care homes. Some 200 people are about to lose their jobs. This is because the Reform UK leadership of Derbyshire County Council has decided to continue with the previous Conservative administration's plan to sell off or close care homes across the county. The sell-off failed so the next step is closure.
Please sign this petition and let county council leaders know that this is not acceptable.

Derbyshire Council is planning to close 8 publicly owned care homes. Hundreds of staff and residents are affected. I’ve just signed a petition to the council leader to save our care homes. Please add your name and share.

Happy New Year!
2026 has started off like a rocket and already it's mid-January.
Whatever the new year brings, we can be sure it will be demanding, challenging and probably frightening. Being a member of the Green Party gives me hope that we will live through this omnicrisis and see better times.
Wishing you health, happiness and hope for the coming year.

Whilst I have been enjoying a safe and relaxing Christmas with my family, I know that people in Gaza have not had the luxury of a calm and peaceful day.
Since the "ceasefire" was announced on 10th October, more than 360 Palestinians have been killed, including around 70 children. 90% of the population has been displaced at least once since October 2023 and people now live in destroyed buildings which may collapse at any moment. Water and food are hard to find and there is no electricity. There is no sense of stability or safety.
As the conflict is played out on the world stage, it's easy to think that there's nothing I can do. But there is!
I have made Palestine Solidarity Campaign’s Councillor Pledge for Palestine! I am committing to advocate for Palestine and to do what I can to end the crimes committed against the Palestinian people.
