This week marks 5 years of Right Resolution CIC Project — Jeevan means life, and that’s exactly what this project has brought: comfort, confidence and the message that every Care-Experienced young person deserves to feel cared for, our commitment to ensure young people have access to sanitaryware with dignity and choice.

Thank you to every partner, donor, funder volunteer and young person who has shaped Jeevan over the last five years.

We’re delighted to share that West Northamptonshire Council has offered us a fantastic opportunity to be part of the Castle Park Community Garden. Our chose the flowers for our raised planter and are taking the lead on nurturing, watering, and keeping it looking its best. A huge thank you to Roger Hill for inviting us to join this brilliant community project. We’re excited to see all the planters flourishing as summer arrives.

The Jeevan has officially arrived in
Childrens services 🥳

is real. We see it. We respond to it. And with Hillingdon Children’s Services, we’re making sure young women don’t face it alone. Thank you Hillingdon for the opportunity to expand this project and reach more females.

Thank you to our partners, funders for helping us bring Jeevan to more young people

The International Care Experienced Day of Remembrance was created by Care Experienced people across the world who called for the recognition that Care Experienced people have been a part of societies in all corners of the world for as long as can be remembered. They have been present in communities and cultures across the world for centuries. There are many Care Experienced people who have made an impact on societies in all corners of the globe.
However, throughout history, as a result of oppression and systemic mismanagement of their lives, Care Experienced people haven’t always been afforded the opportunity to meet their full potential.
We believe that Care Experienced people, children of the state, no matter how long ago they left us, should be remembered. By coming together online, we honoured their legacy.
This symbol was created by Care Experienced people, to commemorate Care Experienced people throughout global history. The image represents a bridge from the past to present, a bridge to the people, a bridge to the future and bridging the divide in understanding of the history of Care Experienced people.

Lemn Sissay OBE was placed into foster care as a child and renamed “Norman.” At the age of 12, he was rejected by his foster parents and went on to live in four different children’s homes until he turned 17. When he left care, he discovered his birth certificate and learned his original name, Lemn, which means “why” in Amharic.
He published his first book of poems at 17, selling copies in pubs and on the streets. Much of his writing reflects his experiences, including the play Something Dark and his memoir My Name Is Why.
In 2021, he was awarded an OBE for services to literature and charity, which he dedicated to his younger self.

Fatima Whitbread, an Olympic javelin thrower. Spent around the first 14 years of her life in care.
After more than 30 years after her Olympic journey, she is now using that same drive into advocating for children’s rights. Fatima is now an ambassador for Action for Children and has started her own campaign called Fatima’s UK Campaign.

As part of her campaign, she wants to help encourage Care Experienced young people to use sports and arts as a positive outlet, just like she did when she was younger.

‘Growing up in children’s homes was hard, and leaving care is a frightening time. However, I’ve made a reasonably good success of it and I’ve spoken to lots of care experienced people who have made a success of it too. There is hope out there, and we’ve got you’ - Fatima Whitbread

Care Experience History Month aims to:
bring to light the experiences of care-experienced people, both past and present
celebrate those who are no longer with us
explore how care-experienced people are embedded within global heritage and culture
call for global recognition of the role of states in the history of care-experienced people
raise awareness of what it means to be care-experienced.
Through involvement in CEHM, organisations and individuals across the world will join in amplifying the stories of those with care-experience and highlighting the key issues impacting those currently in the care system.
