We encourage you to have your say by commenting on our social media posts. We won’t censor comments - even if they are critical of Northern Roots. However, we do have a few rules everyone must follow and will remove posts that don't meet these standards. Monitoring

We’re looking for volunteers to join our Community Roundhouse Build – a hands-on project where you’ll learn traditional woodwork techniques and help create a reciprocal roof roundhouse that will be enjoyed by visitors, schools and the local community for years to come⚒️💚

Choose from two workshop weeks:
📅 Week 1: Monday 5th – Friday 9th October
Support with timber framing and foundations, and develop woodworking skills.

📅 Week 2: Monday 19th – Friday 23th October
Experience hands-on joinery and roofing, and create a living roof.

📍 Snipe Clough Urban Farm, Northern Roots, Oldham
⏰ 9am–4:30pm, Monday–Friday
🥪 Free lunch provided each day

No previous building experience is needed. Just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to learn. Ages 18+.

Food steps, not food miles.

At Northern Roots, produce is grown on Snipe Clough Farm by our dedicated team of volunteers and Growers, using sustainable growing techniques. It then travels just 200 metres to our kitchen, where it's transformed into delicious, seasonal dishes for all to enjoy🍽️🍅

Overseen by chef-partner Mary-Ellen McTague, the café is at the heart of our Welcome Building. Immersed in nature and flooded with light, it’s a place to gather and relax, eat, shop, meet, learn and explore.

In September Northern Roots will open a beautiful new Welcome Building, Forestry Skills Centre, play area, outdoor amphitheatre and four more acres of Urban Farm.

We’re looking for an experienced Finance Manager to oversee all aspects of the Northern Roots charity finances, including payroll, transactions and supporting senior management.

Welcoming Airbnb to see the impact their support is having at Northern Roots in Oldham, Greater Manchester.

This year, we received funding from the AirBnB Best of British Fund to help transform 160 acres of neglected urban greenspace into a landmark destination for nature, food, learning, health and community.

They interviewed our CEO, volunteers, staff and on-site business Hive5 Manchester to capture how we are working together with nature to create a visitor destination like no other.

Our unique “farm to fork” café offer is curated by Chef Partner Mary-Ellen McTague with input from local people, and we can’t wait for you to experience it.

We open our doors for the first time on Saturday 19th September and look forward to welcoming you.

Northern Roots is a charity in , Greater Manchester, transforming 160-acres of neglected land for the benefit of people, planet and place💚

In Snipe Clough Farm, our new 4-acre urban farm, we're using a growing method called syntropic agroforestry. By growing annual crops, like cabbage and kale, alongside perennial crops, such as raspberries and quince trees, we mimic the way a natural forest grows. This helps us create a resilient urban farm that will provide fresh produce for generations to come🌱

On Saturday 19th September, we officially open as a visitor destination. You'll be able to explore our urban farm, visit our brand new Welcome Building with café and shop, and enjoy our outdoor play facilities🤸‍♀️

On Saturday 19th September Northern Roots will open the doors to a beautiful new Welcome Building with café and shop, a brand-new Forestry Skills Centre and four more acres of Urban Farm.

Save the date!

On Saturday 19th September Northern Roots opens the doors to a brand-new community hub and visitor destination in , Greater Manchester.

160 acres of urban green space reimagined for people, planet and place💚

Working in partnership with I love Oldham, local communities, funders, businesses and experts from diverse sectors, the Northern Roots charity is creating what will be the UK’s largest urban farm and eco park.

Visit on Saturday 19 September, help celebrate opening, and see what’s on offer, including:

🌿 160 acres of green space, walks and wildlife
🚜 4 acres of regenerative urban farm
☕ Café featuring produce grown on the farm, menu devised by our chef-partner Mary-Ellen McTague
🎨 Shop featuring Northern Roots produce, local artists and makers
🌳 Kids outdoor play area
🏫 Bookable spaces for events, parties, conferences, meetings
🐝 Programme of events, workshops and activities for all.
