In addition to mountain rescue and search activities, the team is available as a back up for the ambulance and fire services at busy times, during severe weather, major incident or where our specialist skills are needed. Our team of 50+ volunteers provide a professional rescue service 24hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. We are funded almost entirely by generous public donation.

On Friday afternoon we were called to support North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) with a report of a walker who had fallen in Birchen Clough, near Dovestones.

Volunteer team members made their way by team 4x4 vehicles up past Greenfield reservoir to the bottom of Birchen Clough. The rescue party then headed up the Clough on foot with a paramedic, towards the casualty located near the waterfall.
After being checked by the paramedic, the casualty was carefully escorted down the rocky challenging path of Birchen Clough to the waiting vehicles, for onward care with the paramedic.

Massive thank you to the CraggRunner community and the CragRunner organisers Darren and Joolz for raising this amount of money for the Team.
Whilst on the way to the 5 Trigs event to say thanks we were diverted to assist North West Ambulance Service with a patient with a broken leg in a difficult to access location.
It's donations like this that allows us to provide this service to the community in the local area. After the incident we headed back to the event to catch up with Darren and Joolz to say thanks.
Check out their races here https://craggrunner.com/

Oldham Mountain Rescue and Craggrunner would like to say a huge thank you to all of our generous participants who have donated so far this year.

Together, we have raised a fantastic ยฃ760 so far in 2026. Dave and Ian from Oldham Mountain Rescue Team popped down to our Five Trigs event on Saturday to receive the good news.

Your donations make such a difference to the incredible work Mountain Rescue do. Their service is funded entirely by voluntary donations and, whilst we all hope we never need them, one day it could be any of us relying on their help.

Thank you again for your continued support ๐Ÿ’™

On Sunday morning, OMRT were called by North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) after they received an emergency call from a party of four walkers, where one member of the group had fallen and injured themselves on the upper edge path at Ashway, Dovestones.

A rapid response party was deployed to the location, while additional volunteer team members collected the stretcher and additional medical equipment in preparation for a possible carry-out.

On reaching the casualty, it became clear they had fallen on a steep, scrambly section of the path, resulting in a suspected upper arm fracture.

One of OMRTโ€™s qualified Remote Rescue Medical Technicians assessed the casualty and administered pain relief. Due to the location and the challenging terrain involved in a stretcher carry to a vehicle access point, assistance was requested from the North West Air Ambulance.

The casualty was carefully transferred onto our stretcher before being carried for 10 minutes to the waiting helicopter, for onward travel to hospital and further treatment.

On Saturday afternoon, we were called by North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) to assist with a casualty who had sustained a suspected broken leg after slipping on wet ground in woodland at Sholver, Oldham.

Team members worked alongside paramedics to apply a vacuum splint to stabilise the injury and then carefully transferred the casualty onto a stretcher. They were then carried back up the track to the waiting ambulance for onward care.
We wish the casualty a full and speedy recovery.
