As part of Drowning Prevention Week, we're asking everyone to take a few minutes to learn something that could save a life.

Every year, lives are lost in preventable water-related incidents. Whether you're walking along the river, enjoying a day out with family, fishing, boating, or simply passing by the water, understanding the risks can make all the difference.

💙 Remember:
✔️ Keep children close and away from the water.
✔️ Avoid alcohol around water.
✔️ Never enter the water to rescue someone.
✔️ In an emergency, call 999 and ask for the fire service.
✔️ If you unexpectedly enter the water, Float to Live – tilt your head back, relax, and control your breathing.

At York Rescue Boat, our volunteers are on the water year-round, but prevention is always better than rescue.

At York Rescue Boat, our volunteers are called out to emergencies on the water throughout the year. We know that drowning can happen quickly, quietly, and to anyone - regardless of age or ability.

That's why we're supporting Drowning Prevention Week and asking everyone to take a few moments to learn the simple steps that could save a life.

✔️ Stay clear of the water's edge
✔️ Keep children close and under constant supervision near water.
✔️ Never enter the water to carry out a rescue yourself.
✔️ In an emergency, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard at the coast and Fire and Rescue inland.
✔️ If you fall into the water unexpectedly, remember: Float to Live.

We are at the Alne Street Fayre today with our fundraising stall with teddie tombola and jigsaws and games, we also have one of our flood boats here too. If you are coming down today, Our stall is near to the church.

Tonight, some of our crew had the pleasure of visiting our friends at Hull Coastguard Rescue Team.

Search and Rescue is very much a team effort, bringing together organisations and volunteers from across Yorkshire and beyond. Opportunities like this allow us to better understand each other’s capabilities, equipment and ways of working, helping to strengthen the relationships that are so important when incidents occur.

A huge thank you to the team for their hospitality and for taking the time to share their knowledge and experience. We look forward to continuing to work together whenever and wherever the need arises.

** Callout(s) ** York Rescue Boat volunteers have been called out to two separate concerns for safety on the River Ouse today, both at Scarborough Bridge, the first at 1852 hours, the latest at 2318 hours. Both taskings brought to safe conclusion working with partner agencies including North Yorkshire Police Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service and Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust
