ike and offers a diverse range of study and research environments, including a Creative Zone, Exhibition Area, Skills Centre and Library studio as well as an Assistive Technology Lab. UCC Library is comprised of the Boole Library (Main Campus), Boston Scientific Health Sciences Library (Brookfield). UCC Library also operates a joint Library Service with Mercy University Hospital, Cork. The Boole Library is located at the heart of the main campus at University College Cork (UCC) which is situated in south-west Ireland and was founded as a Queen’s College in 1845. The Boole Library is named after George Boole who was first professor of Mathematics at Queens College Cork. Today Boole is best remembered as the originator of Boolean Logic - a fundamental step in today's computer revolution, and the basis for all modern computer software.

Thanks to Ray Cuddihy from RTÉ Radio 1 for coming along to our first BOOLE SOUNDS concert and for giving it a fine thumbs up later that night on his Late Date show.

We have some excellent shows coming up with our September gigs close to selling out 👀

The rest of our shows are seated, with drinks provided by sustainable vegan food company -J- and our acts are curated by the brilliant Albert Twomey .twomey (Tombstome Promotions).

UCC Library works with an independent promoter who manages artist bookings and all financial arrangements; all ticket revenue is used solely to cover artist fees and related costs, with no proceeds retained by UCC. Events are alcohol-free, accessible and age-friendly, supporting UCC Library’s and the university’s commitment to inclusive public engagement.

Last week, we were delighted to welcome 5th class from Glasheen Girls National School, the winners of the annual Professor Fluffy Bookmark Competition.
They all brought fantastic energy and enthusiasm to the library, enjoying activities organised by our Client Services Team.

Join us for the UCC Library Postgrad & International Social on Wednesday 10 July, from 12–2pm in the Creative Zone, Boole Library
Drop in for tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits and some conversation. Whether you’re spending the summer on campus or just passing through, it’s a chance to meet other students and take a break in a welcoming space.
(🌿 Bring your own cup if you can.)
All students are welcome, and you can join at any time, drop in, drop out, stay.
(This is the first of our summer social events in the library, with more to come over the coming weeks.)

On Monday we said goodbye to our colleague Alan Carbery after eight years at UCC Library, as he takes up the role of Deputy Librarian at
Alan has been a strong, thoughtful leader and colleague, who always had a clear focus on the role of UCC Library in supporting teaching, learning, research and the student experience at UCC. His leadership style was been rooted in trust, encouragement and support, with a strong emphasis on mentoring and enabling colleagues to do their best work. His work helped further develop our approach to students as partners, and contributed to the development of a more strategic approach to library space through the space planning programme, shaping how we think about study, collaboration, wellbeing and belonging.
Alan, we will continue the transformative work you led on and build on the progress made during your time here. You have helped shape and strengthen UCC Library into what it is today.
We thank you for your contribution over the past eight years and we sincerely wish you all the best at DCU Library.
We will miss you and wish your every success in the next stage of your career. 💛

UCC Library is delighted to host a coffee morning in aid of our former Student Engagement Intern, Alex Moloney. ( )
Alex, who recently completed First Year Arts studying European Studies and Spanish, will represent Team Munster at the Ireland Summer Games this June
To help support the costs involved, we’ll have delicious cakes, teas & coffees (plus some great music) in the Creative Zone on Tuesday 26 May from 10am–11am.
All are very welcome. Come along, grab a coffee, enjoy the atmosphere, and support Alex on the road to the Summer Games.

Today, UCC held their annual Good Practice Symposium 2026. Under this year’s theme of Belonging, the Symposium highlighted how everyday initiatives at UCC are helping people feel seen, supported and connected across UCC
