Prof. Anil Kakodkar shared valuable insights on India’s future energy needs, emphasising that the country will require a major expansion and diversification of its energy supply to support economic growth and a better quality of life. He highlighted the importance of combining renewable energy, bioenergy, nuclear power and hydrogen, while developing India’s own technologies and reducing dependence on external resources. He also emphasised India’s significant thorium potential as a long-term energy opportunity. His key message was clear: India’s energy future must focus on energy security, innovation, self-reliance and sustainability.
Dr. Vijay Kumar Saraswat, Full-Time Member of NITI Aayog and former DG, DRDO, spoke on India’s energy transition, climate action and energy security. He stressed that India’s path to Net Zero by 2070 must balance clean energy with affordability, economic growth and energy sovereignty. With energy demand rising rapidly, he highlighted the importance of renewables, nuclear energy, hydrogen, clean coal and indigenous technology. He also noted the huge financing requirement—around US$22.7 trillion by 2070—and called for stronger domestic manufacturing, innovation and international cooperation to secure India’s energy future.
