Prime Minister Pierre's Tax on Charcoal: From Opposition Critic to Policy Initiator

Charcoal is a primary cooking fuel for many households, especially in rural areas. The introduction of a tax on this essential commodity places an additional financial burden on already struggling families. It directly affects their cost of living and threatens their ability to put food on the table.

Charcoal is also used by many small entrepreneurs across the country for barbecuing chicken, pork and fish as a means of income.

It is made worse when kerosene which Pierre labelled as "Poor People's Fuel" whilst in Opposition is kept at the highest it has ever been over the last 2 years.

The 2.5% tax on charcoal imposed by Prime Minister Pierre is a decision that demands reconsideration. It threatens the livelihoods of hundreds of Saint Lucians who rely on this industry
