On 2 June 2026, the Embassy of Italy in Sri Lanka celebrated Festa della Repubblica, Italy's National Day, with a reception held at Cinnamon Life City of Dreams, Colombo. The invitees included members of the diplomatic corps, government representatives, business leaders, cultural partners and friends of Italy.

This year's celebration held special significance as it marked both the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic and the 75th anniversary of the Embassy of Italy in Colombo — two milestones that reflect Italy's democratic journey and a longstanding friendship between Italy and Sri Lanka.

We were privileged to welcome the Minister of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment Dr. Upali Pannilage as Chief Guest together with distinguished representatives from across Sri Lankan society and the Italian community.

With cultural performances punctuating moments of shared celebration, accompanied by traditional Italian gastronomy and wines, the evening highlighted the strong bonds that unite our two countries and the growing cooperation across diplomacy, trade, culture, education, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.

The evening also featured "Islands' Rhythms", a photographic journey across the landscapes of Sardinia and Sri Lanka by award-winning Italian photographer Dario Coletti, which was later exhibited at Radicle Gallery from 10–17 June.

As we celebrate these important anniversaries, we look forward to further strengthening the partnership between Italy and Sri Lanka in the years ahead.

On June 12th, in Rome, Italy's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Antonio Tajani conferred the honour of Commendatore dell’Ordine della Stella d’Italia upon Ms. Giorgia Marazzi, Honorary Consul of Italy in Malé, Maldives.

This prestigious recognition honours her exceptional service to Italian citizens and her longstanding contribution to strengthening the ties between Italy and the Maldives.

In recent months, Ms. Marazzi played a pivotal role in assisting Italian nationals during complex emergency situations, including the tragic diving incident in the Maldives and the disruptions to international travel caused by the temporary closure of Gulf airspace. Working in close coordination with the Embassy of Italy in Colombo and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she helped facilitate assistance and repatriation efforts for more than 1,000 Italian citizens.

The Embassy warmly congratulates Ms. Marazzi on this well-deserved recognition and thanks her for her dedication, professionalism and unwavering commitment to serving the Italian community.
