At the ongoing SADCOPAC conference currently taking place in Swakopmund, which commenced today, three delegates from the Office of the Auditor-General (OAG) are actively participating in the deliberations.
The delegation intends to present and share insights on the OAGās expectations of Public Accounts Committees (PACs), with particular emphasis on the conference theme: āStrengthening oversight capacity for sustainable development, enhancing accountability and transparency in public finance management.
In their engagements, the OAG delegates will highlight the critical role of PACs in reinforcing parliamentary oversight over public finance management systems. They will emphasize that effective scrutiny of audit findings, timely follow-up on recommendations, and enforcement of accountability measures which are essential in ensuring that public resources are managed efficiently and in line with national development priorities.
Furthermore, the delegation will underscore the importance of strengthening institutional and technical capacity within PACs to enable them to effectively interrogate audit reports, engage accounting officers, and promote transparency in the use of public funds. This includes fostering a deeper understanding of audit processes, financial governance frameworks, and sustainable development objectives.
A key message the delegation intends to convey is the need for enhanced collaboration between SAIs and PACs, as this partnership is central to improving accountability outcomes, reducing inefficiencies, and ensuring that public investments translate into tangible socio-economic benefits for citizens.
Through their participation, the OAG delegates aim to contribute meaningfully to the conference discussions and reaffirm OAGās commitment to strengthening oversight institutions as a cornerstone for sustainable development, accountability, and transparent public finance management across the region.
