As the Senate proceeded on a three-week recess, I participated actively in plenary proceedings, reaffirming my commitment to legislative service and national development.

The break provides lawmakers with additional time to carry out critical oversight responsibilities and engage directly with constituents across our respective districts.

We remain dedicated to delivering quality representation, effective oversight, and people-centred legislation for the benefit of our nation and our communities.

We will continue to work for our people.

"Justice delayed is justice denied" , it is on this premise that I lent my voice and support during today’s plenary as the Senate passed for second reading two crucial bills designed to strengthen the nation’s judiciary and improve the administration of justice.

The proposed bills seek to increase the number of judges of the Federal High Court from 70 to 90 and raise the number of Justices of the Court of Appeal from 70 to 110. These reforms are expected to ease the burden on the courts, reduce delays in the determination of cases, and enhance access to justice for Nigerians.

As lawmakers, we have a responsibility to ensure that our institutions are adequately equipped to meet the demands of a growing nation. I will continue to support legislative initiatives that promote efficiency, accountability, and the rule of law.

I remain committed to creating global opportunities for the youths and people of Abia North through education, training, capacity building and international exposure.

Beneficiaries including Alaezi Onyekwere John (Bende), Ume Benedicth Ukaha (Ohafia), and Egbulam Ikechukwu Emmanuel (Isuikwuato) are currently participating in the Advanced Training on Green Finance and Financial Supervision for Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) Partner Countries in China.

This is in addition to several Abia North youths pursuing Doctoral and Master’s degrees through different international scholarship platforms, while others continue to benefit from educational and professional development opportunities facilitated through our various interventions.

Human capital development remains the foundation for sustainable growth, prosperity and long-term development.

Today, shortly after plenary, I chaired an interactive oversight session of the Senate Committee on the South East Development Commission (SEDC) with the Commission’s leadership led by the Managing Director/CEO, Hon. Mark Okoye.

As part of our constitutional oversight responsibilities, we requested comprehensive documentation covering the Commission’s finances, programmes, procurement processes, budget implementation, staff records, and compliance with the Federal Character Principle.

Accountability, transparency and prudent management of public resources remain paramount.

The Commission has undertaken to provide detailed records of its expenditures and other requested documents at our next sitting.

Congratulations to my brother, High Chief Etomchukwu Ubah, and his wife, Mrs. Jane Onyinye Ubah, on the joyous arrival of their twins. It was a delight to pay them a visit at their home in Lagos and share in this wonderful moment with the family.

My visit to Lagos this weekend provided an opportunity to pay a courtesy call on the Deputy Governor of Lagos State and the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat.

Our discussion focused on issues of governance, national development, and the continued progress of Lagos State as a model of subnational growth and innovation. I commend Dr. Hamzat for his commitment to public service and wish him success in his aspirations to further serve the people of Lagos State.

It was a pleasure exchanging ideas on strengthening our party and advancing policies that will continue to promote prosperity, unity, and good governance across Nigeria.

I am delighted to announce the commencement of the 2026 distribution of educational materials (school bags, STEM textbooks, exercise books, school uniforms, excerise books) across various schools in Abia North. From Bende to Umunneochi, the atmosphere has been filled with excitement and appreciation as we continue our commitment to supporting education in our constituency. This free distribution of educational materials will cover all five local government areas in Abia North, with schools in Ohafia, Arochukwu, and Isuikwuato also benefiting from the initiative in the coming days.

During the flag-off ceremonies held on Thursday, June 4, 2026, I was represented by my aides, Barr. Victor Etie and Barr. Ifeanyi Igwe. The events were marked by overwhelming joy and gratitude from pupils, teachers, and parents in the schools visited, including Leru Central School, Umuchieze in Umunneochi LGA, and Amorji Lodu Primary School, among others. Their enthusiasm reflects the importance of educational support and the positive impact these materials will have on learning outcomes across the zone.

Education remains one of my top priorities as the Senator representing the good people of Abia North. Since assuming office, I have consistently distributed educational materials such as school bags, textbooks, exercise books, and other learning resources to schools throughout the constituency. It is also noteworthy that I have facilitated the renovation and construction of over 2,000 schools across Abia State and built and donated more than 3,000 reading desks to schools in Abia North. Together, we will continue to invest in the future of our children through quality education and improved learning infrastructure.

Today in the Senate, I lent my voice to two critical national issues the fight against malaria and the urgent need to strengthen security across our country.

I fully supported the passage of the bill establishing the National Agency for Malaria Elimination, a landmark step towards eradicating one of the deadliest diseases affecting millions of Nigerians.

On security, I joined my colleagues in adopting far-reaching resolutions aimed at moving beyond rhetoric to concrete action. We must ensure that security chiefs are held accountable for the resources appropriated to them and that measurable results are delivered from the interventions and support provided by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration and the National Assembly.

The safety, health, and well-being of Nigerians must remain our collective priority.
