🚨 Spanish authorities, supported by Europol, dismantled a criminal network smuggling migrants from Algeria to Spain. Nine arrests were made, and significant assets were seized. The dismantled network was well-equipped and had a hierarchical structure with distinct groups assigned specific responsibilities.

🔎 Europol's migrant smuggling experts played a crucial role in this operation, providing operational support and enhancing the investigation with our data-driven approach.

To bolster our efforts against migrant smuggling, the European Centre Against Migrant Smuggling (ECAMS) was established in March 2026. This new centre strengthens information exchange, coordination, and expertise in OSINT and financial investigations.

🚨 8 arrested in a hit against criminal network smuggling Cuban nationals into Spain through the Balkan region. The network offered Cuban nationals a “travel package” for EUR 3 000 per person.

Some of the results are:
🔹 Arrests of the two alleged leaders of the criminal network;
🔹 4 house searches;
🔹 28 bank accounts and financial products frozen and seized;
🔹 Seizures include: bank cards, two imitation fi****ms, about EUR 10 000 in cash, electronic devices, and various documents relevant to the investigation.

Migrants were abandoned in vulnerable conditions, in overcrowded accommodation facilities lacking minimum living standards. In some cases, they were left without food, communication means, or basic hygiene conditions.

🛡️ Europol is strengthening support against migrant smuggling through the new European Centre Against Migrant Smuggling (ECAMS).
