Come and hear about recent research on the estuary on May 21st. Two topics:
1. Pellet (or "nurdle") pollution around the Avon-Heathcote Estuary, from Iris Aitken
2. Seagrass and fish in the Estuary. Professor Mads Thomsen, School of Biological Sciences, Canterbury University will introduce his students who will be presenting their research on seagrass and its importance to fish in the Ihutai Estuary.

Deep pools have been enlarged to allow fish, tuna and other critters to survive in the dry periods. These photos taken earlier show better the process of Te Awa Kura Stream remediation. If you remember in the big floods the sides of the stream collapsed bring sediment down into the estuary and destroying the shell fish communities. The process happening here is called 'battering back' this will now be planted. We're thrilled to finally have this work done as we can now start planting this whole paddock - a much needed boost to re-cloaking this whole valley

quality fish habitat within Barnett Park, including populations of inanga, shortfin eel, and common bully”
