Just a reminder about purchasing tickets for the Sau Ia Fest next Thursday. This is for the Year 4-6 students in our Pasifika group, Uniforms and more information about the rehearsal and evening will be sent home tomorrow. Our ia lavalava are brand new so please remind children to treat them with respect. We understand the tickets are a bit pricey but this is out of our control. The Christchurch Symphony Orchestra will be playing alongside the groups so this will be a spectacular event! Click the link to purchase tickets.

We are so proud of our student leadership team who all displayed our STAR values this afternoon at the Shirley Reserve. We were invited to participate in a 'sod turning' ceremony to celebrate the start of the construction of our new community centre. Phoebe and Isaac spoke on our behalf, and we were so proud! Here is what they said:

Kia ora koutou, talofa lava, mālō e lelei, good afternoon. My name is Phoebe, and this is Isaac. We are speaking on behalf of the 2026 student leadership team at Te Hiwa Shirley Primary School - just across the road.

We have recently worked with Louise, Barbara, and Kirin from the city council, brainstorming and sharing some of our ideas for what the outdoor facilities here at the community centre site could look like.

This community centre is going to be great for our community because we haven’t had one since the previous building was damaged in the earthquakes back in 2010/2011.

This was several years before either of us were even born, and we’re now in Year 6.

We are looking forward to possibly being able to make use of the function room or meeting rooms at the new centre.

Perhaps once a term we could hold our student leadership hui here.

The students at Te Hiwa Shirley Primary School are looking forward to watching construction from across the road, seeing the building take shape.

We’d like to thank the Christchurch City Council for the opportunity to participate in this ceremony today, and for the times they’ve worked with us at school this term. Kia ora.
