Let's clear something up first... there are no suits, no stuffy meetings, and you definitely don't need fundraising experience! ๐Ÿ˜„โ˜•

We're a relaxed bunch who enjoy a laugh, sharing ideas, and working together to raise money for the fun extras that make our school even more awesome for our tamariki. ๐Ÿ’™

๐ŸŽจ Interactive playground games
๐Ÿ”Š Equipment for school events
๐ŸŽˆ Fun activities and special projects
๐Ÿ˜Š And plenty more along the way!

You don't have to commit to everything.
โœ”๏ธ Help at one event? Awesome!
โœ”๏ธ Pop into a meeting when you can? Perfect!
โœ”๏ธ Share a few ideas or lend a hand behind the scenes? We'd absolutely love that! ๐Ÿ’ก๐Ÿ™Œ

The more people we have, the lighter the workload becomesโ€”and the more fun we can have together! ๐ŸŽ‰

๐ŸŒบ Calling Our Pasifika Community ๐ŸŒบ

Gilberthorpe School is looking for a passionate Pasifika volunteer to work with a small group of our tamariki.

Our previous volunteer has had to step away, and we'd love to find someone who can continue building on the wonderful foundation that's already been created. The role involves teaching Pasifika songs, dances, and cultural performances while sharing the richness of Pasifika culture with our students.

If you have experience in Pasifika performance, enjoy working with children, and would love to help our tamariki connect with and celebrate their culture, we'd love to hear from you.

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in our school community.

If you're interested, or know someone who might be, please send us a message or contact the school office for more information.

Please feel free to share this post within your Pasifika networks to help us find the right person. ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŒบ

On Monday evening, a group of our staff had the privilege of cooking and serving dinner at Ronald McDonald House South (Christchurch), thanks to the support of our amazing Gilberthorpe School whฤnau and our staff.

We were very lucky to be given a tour of the house and learned more about the families who stay there, where they come from, and the incredible support RMH provides during what can be a really difficult time.

It was a very special evening and a great reminder of how something as simple as a home-cooked meal can make a difference, or as our value goes, "make someone's day"

We also provided some wee trinkets and books for the children to take and keep, or to use while they are in the house. The smiles of these children warmed our hearts. To us, it was something simple, but it meant a lot to them.

Thank you to everyone who supported our PJ Day fundraiser. Your generosity made this possible, and we're so proud that, together, we were able to give back to such an amazing organisation.

We can't wait to do this again next year!

Kia ora whฤnau,

A reminder: the Reporting information session is tonight at 6pm in the hall.

At the end of Week 1, Term 3, you will receive a written report outlining your child's academic progress and achievement. These reports have been developed to align with the new reporting expectations set by the Ministry of Education.

We understand that the format and information included in these reports may be new for many families. To help you better understand the report and what it means for your child, we invite you to attend one of our parent information hui on Wednesday, 1 July.

During these sessions, we will:

Explain the different sections of the report.
Discuss what the achievement information means.
Outline how the report aligns with the new curriculum and reporting requirements.
Answer any questions you may have.
We will also be holding Learning Conferences early in Term 3, providing an opportunity for parents and caregivers to discuss their child's report and learning progress directly with their teacher.

Hui Times

Session 2: 6:00 pm โ€“ 6:30 pm

We encourage all whฤnau to attend one of these sessions and look forward to sharing this information with you. Light refreshments will be provided.

Ngฤ mihi,

Simon Scott.
Principal

At Gilberthorpe School, one of our core values is "Make Someone's Day"โ€”showing kindness, compassion, and making a positive difference in the lives of others.

As part of living this value, some of our staff are taking the value outside the school gates and will be volunteering their time to cook and serve dinner for the families staying at Ronald McDonald House, they will be doing this in the school holidays. These families are supporting children receiving medical treatment and often face long periods away from home.

To help Make Someone's Day, can students please wear their favourite pyjamas to school and bring along a gold coin donation. Every dollar raised will go towards helping Ronald McDonald House continue to provide a warm, welcoming home away from home for families when they need it most.

๐Ÿ“… Date: Thursday 2nd July

So, put on your comfiest warm PJs, bring along a gold coin, and join us as we live our "Make Someone's Day" value by supporting families going through a challenging time.

Thank you for your kindness and generosity. Together, we can help make someone's day. โค๏ธ
