🌟 Instructor of the Month – Meet Paul! 🌟

This month we're shining the spotlight on Paul! 👏

Paul is incredible at building possitive relationships with his students and brings plenty of enthusiasm to every lesson. He is also passionate about helping children build confidence, develop life long swimming skills, and most importantly, stay safe in the water. Get to know him a little better in this month's Q&A!

🏊 Q: Tell us a bit about yourself and how you got into teaching swimming.

A: I've always loved being active, and swimming was a big part of my life growing up. I've also always been interested in becoming a teacher, so teaching swimming turned out to be the perfect combination of both.

💙 Q: What do you love most about being a swim instructor?

A: Making sure children learn the skills they need to stay safe in the water and watching them improve with every lesson is the best part of the job.

🏅 Q: What is your favourite stroke and why?

A: Freestyle! It was the first stroke I learned as a child, so it's always been my favourite.

⚽ Q: If you weren't teaching swimming, what do you think you'd be doing?

A: I'd probably be helping out as a football coach.

🌊Q: What is your top piece of advice for anyone looking to become a better swimmer?

A: Always try your best and practice whenever you get the chance. Most importantly, have lots of fun while you're swimming–that's the best way to improve!

🌊 Give Paddleboarding a Go at Selwyn Aquatic Centre! 🌊

Looking for a fun way to get out on the water? Join us for a paddleboarding session and learn the basics in a safe and supportive environment. Start on your knees, build your confidence and balance, then work your way up to standing and trying different paddle strokes.

✅ No experience needed
✅ Suitable for adults and children aged 7+
✅ Children under 7 can participate with a caregiver (16+) on the same board

If you've visited Selwyn Aquatic Centre, there's a good chance you've been welcomed by James' friendly smile! 😄

We asked James a few questions so you can get to know him a little better!

Q: What's your favourite part about working at Selwyn Aquatic Centre?
A: "I enjoy working in an active sporting environment, but my favourite part is interacting and chatting with customers who are swimming, training, or preparing for events." 🏊‍♀️

Q: How long have you worked at Selwyn Aquatic Centre?
A: Since 2023. 👏

Q: What's one thing you wish more customers knew about our centre?
A: You can check lane availability and our quieter times on our website before you visit, making it even easier to plan your swim.

Q: What do you love doing outside of work?
A: I'm currently studying towards a Bachelor of Sport at university, combining my passion for exercise and sport with my future career.💪

Q: If you could describe our Customer Service team in three words, what would they be?
A: Friendly. Kind. Supportive. 😊

Sensory Time is back today! 🫧🌈

Looking for a relaxed way to introduce your little one to the pool? Join us for a morning of sensory fun with toys, bubbles, mirrors, and plenty of splashing!

Amanda will be in the pool throughout the session to help your child become familiar with a swim instructor in a fun, pressure-free environment. It's also the perfect opportunity to ask any questions you have about swimming and water confidence.

🧒 Suitable for children with good head control and older
🕘 Tuesdays during term time | 9:00am–11:00am just Drop in anytime during the session
