Win tickets and help make history with Matatū!

Selwyn is now proudly home to the mighty Matatū team, based out of Lincoln University, with some of the squad hailing right here from our amazing district, making this an even more special moment for our community.

We're upgrading our systems for getting a building consent.

We are moving from AlphaOne to the Objective Build system, which makes it easier and more efficient to apply for and gain a building consent.

AlphaOne will be unavailable from 1pm Friday (12 June) while we do the change over. We'll be back with Objective Build from 8am Monday.

Meet Maury 🖐️

Maury moved from Auckland to Tai Tapu over a decade ago and now balances farm life with running her plant-protein business, Leaft, alongside her husband John.

Originally a marine engineer, Maury made history in 1995 as the first (and still only) woman to race on a Team New Zealand America’s Cup boat.

After a career in consulting and senior roles in the dairy sector, she became interested in more sustainable, high-value food production. Since then, she has developed Leaft, which extracts high-quality Rubisco protein from lucerne leaves, a nutrient-rich, easily digestible protein used by athletes and as a food ingredient (including as an egg alternative in baking).

Meet Chris 🖐️

A former dairy farmer and Federated Farmers leader, Chris moved to Selwyn three years ago after experiencing severe burnout from the pressures of farming, advocacy work, and supporting others during crises like Mycoplasma bovis. Realising the toll on his health and family, he and his wife Jodi made a lifestyle change.

Now based in Doyleston, Chris has built a successful landscaping business, Garden Masters, which started from a simple lawn-mowing job and has grown to employ six staff. He also supports men’s mental health initiatives, inspired by his own experience and the importance of asking for help.

May’s Repair Café, in collaboration with Lincoln Envirotown was one for the books

👥 75 people came along
🛠️ 132 items brought in (plus a few bonus knives sharpened on the side!)
✅ 88 items successfully repaired
💡 20 given a second life with expert advice on what to do next

That's over 100 items potentially saved from landfill!

It’s incredible what can happen when a community comes together like this.

🍂 Autumn’s changing leaves are a spectacular sight!

A drive around Selwyn District at this time of year shows the region glowing with rich autumn colours.

But while it’s beautiful, those fallen leaves can quickly turn into a problem when the first winter downpour arrives, leading to blocked drains and flooding.

The good news? Our teams have been hard at work cleaning out drains, culverts and soak holes across the District. Now is the time to sort your gutters and downpipes at home.

✅ Scoop up fallen leaves so rainwater can flow freely
✅ Check outdoor drains aren’t buried under garden debris
✅ Rake up leaves and clear dead wood before storms hit
✅ Run a hose through downpipes to check for hidden clogs

Let’s keep our community flowing smoothly this season 🍂
