Behind every playground, reserve, campground and planting project in Selwyn is a team making it all happen.

On World Ranger Day, we celebrate our Reserve Officers who work with communities, support volunteers, respond to the unexpected, manage popular recreation spaces, and help shape the future of our parks and reserves.

Their days are varied, their impact is immense, and their commitment helps make Selwyn’s outdoor spaces enjoyable for everyone.

Thank you to our rangers for all that you do. 💚

From our "go hard or go home" Deputy Mayor, Big Red, comes his latest explainer video.

This time he’s tackling rates bills and answering the question: why do I get one bill from Selwyn District Council and another from Selwyn Water?

Grab a cuppa, hit play, and let Big Red break it down in plain English. 👇🎥

Think you're not sustainable enough? The 2026 Responsible Business Awards challenge this common business myth.

Many business owners assume sustainability awards are only for large organisations with formal environmental programmes. Maree Hamilton, Coordinator at Selwyn Responsible Business Network, directly challenges that perception, explaining that even small actions and sole-operator businesses can make a meaningful impact.

"The awards aren't looking for one business to save the world," she explains. Instead, they celebrate businesses, educators and community groups that are making genuine efforts to create positive environmental, social or community outcomes.

Taking part is simple, friendly and practical. An assessor will visit you for 30-40 minutes to learn more about your business’s strength, successes, what challenges you face and how the Selwyn Responsible Business Network can best support you to celebrate your sustainable business amongst your peers.

🐾 Reminder: scoop the p**p 💩

We've been noticing more dog poo in our parks and public spaces lately. Please be considerate of other park users and clean up after your dog.

When heading out for a walk, remember to take a bag with you and pick up your dog's poo. Dispose of the bag in the bins provided at dog parks or take it home and place it in your red rubbish bin.

Let's all do our part to keep our parks and public spaces clean and enjoyable for everyone. 💚

Owners may be fined $300 if they're caught not picking up their dog's poo.
