Cultural Diplomacy Carved in Wood: Lae and Cairns Commemorate 42-Year Sister-City Relationship with Totem Pole Gift for the 150years Cairns Celebrations.

In a historic milestone celebrating over four decades of international friendship, the Lae Tourism Bureau, acting as the primary liaison office, has successfully coordinated the shipment of custom-crafted cultural totem poles destined for the Cairns Botanical Gardens in Queensland, Australia.
The exchange is a flagship initiative under the newly revitalized Botanical Gardens Exchange Program between Lae and Cairns.
Funded and gifted by the LCA Chairman, the totem poles serve as a permanent monument to commemorate the enduring 42-year sister-city relationship between the two cities.
The detail and delicate poles, which showcase the rich cultural identity and master craftsmanship of Lae Multi Diverse Cultural City, were safely prepared and shipped from Lae to Brisbane. From Brisbane, the poles will make their final overland journey north to Cairns, where they will be permanently installed within the lush landscapes of the Cairns Botanical Gardens.
"This project is a true reflection to the deep-rooted ties, shared history, and mutual respect between Lae and Cairns," said the Lae Tourism Bureau Manager Maine Winny. "These totem poles do more than just beautify a space they tell our story, carry the spirit of Lae Morobe Province master carvers, and stand as a physical anchor for our partnership. We are incredibly grateful for the Lae City Authority Chairman and the management for their continuous support.
The installation ceremony in Cairns will mark a significant chapter in the cultural exchange, further strengthening regional tourism, artistic collaboration, and municipal ties. The Lae Tourism Bureau will continue to oversee the final phases of the project as the poles near their new home.
