PRO7 INTENSIFIES PUBLIC SAFETY MEASURES IN TWO-DAY TRANSPORT STRIKE
As the two-day transport strike begins today, September 29, 2026, in Cebu, Police Regional Office 7 (PRO7) reminds commuters and the general public to plan their trips ahead, remain vigilant, and exercise patience as the temporary reduction in public utility vehicles may cause longer waiting times, increased passenger volume, traffic congestion, and possible transportation disruptions in several areas.
The transport strike is expected to affect the availability of public transportation in various routes. Police personnel are being deployed in strategic locations, major roads, transport terminals, and commuter convergence areas to assist the public, maintain peace and order, and ensure the safe movement of commuters and motorists.
PRO7 reminds commuters who need to travel today and tomorrow to leave earlier than usual, consider available alternative modes of transportation, coordinate with family members or colleagues for possible rides, and monitor official announcements before leaving home. Those with nonessential trips are encouraged to consider adjusting their travel schedules to avoid periods of limited transportation availability.
The public is likewise reminded to remain vigilant in crowded areas. Commuters should keep their belongings secure, avoid openly displaying cash and other valuables, and immediately report suspicious persons, unattended items, emergencies, or other concerns to the nearest police personnel or police station.
Regional Director PBGEN ARNOLD E. ABAD called on commuters and the transport sector to remain calm, cooperative, and considerate as Cebu manages the possible transportation challenges brought about by the strike.
“We ask everyone to plan ahead, be patient with one another, and help us keep our roads and public spaces safe. Police presence is intended for security of everyone. The goal is ensure that the exercise of constitutional freedoms are protected while public safety and security are not disrupted,” PBGEN Abad said.
PRO7 emphasizes that the Philippine National Police respects the constitutional right to peaceful assembly and expression. Police personnel will continue to maintain a visible presence in strategic areas while ensuring that the rights and safety of protesters, commuters, motorists, and other members of the public are respected.
As the transport strike continues through September 30, PRO7 encourages everyone to rely on verified information from government agencies and local authorities and to avoid sharing unverified reports that may cause unnecessary confusion or alarm.
Through “Bagong PNP Para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat, at Nararamdaman,” PRO7 remains committed to providing assistance where it is needed and ensuring that peace, order, and public safety are maintained throughout the duration of the transport strike.
