๐—Ÿ๐—ข๐—ข๐—ž: The ECCP had a courtesy meeting with Czech Embassy Manila and CzechTrade on 10 September 2026.

ECCP President Dr. Diana Edralin and Executive Director Florian Gottein met with Ms. Markรฉta Pฤ›ฤkovรก Head of the Economic, Trade and Defense Section of the Embassy of the Czech Republic and Mr. Ondล™ej Puchinger Director of CzechTrade Philippines to discuss exploring stronger Czechโ€“Philippine business ties through priority sectors, B2B matchmaking, industry partnerships, and continued collaboration between CzechTrade and the ECCP.

The ECCP is committed to deepening its collaboration with the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Manila and CzechTrade, supporting initiatives that strengthen Czechโ€“Philippine economic and business ties.

Commemorating the 173rd birth anniversary of Ferdinand Blumentritt โ€” a Czech-born scholar and one of the pioneers of Philippine studies in Europe.

Born on 10 September 1853 in Prague, then part of the Austrian Empire, Blumentritt developed a deep scholarly interest in the Philippines despite not being able to visit the Philippines.

His work eventually captured the attention of a young Josรฉ Rizal, who was fascinated by a European scholar taking a serious interest in the Philippines. In 1886, Rizal wrote to Blumentritt, beginning a remarkable correspondence and friendship that would last until Rizalโ€™s death.

One of the last letters Rizal wrote was addressed to Blumentritt, whom he regarded as a dear friend and intellectual companion. Although Blumentritt never visited the Philippines, his lifelong scholarship and his friendship with Rizal left a lasting mark on Philippine history and scholarship.

Today, his legacy continues to be remembered in the Philippines, where streets and landmarksโ€”including Blumentritt Road and the Blumentritt stations in Manilaโ€”bear his name, reflecting the enduring friendship between a Czech-born scholar and one of the Philippinesโ€™ national heroes.
