The Embassy of Bangladesh in Manila convened a seminar on 16 September 2026 on the "Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) among Bangladeshi Expatriates in the Philippines". The seminar brought together Bangladeshi community members and health partners to promote awareness and healthier lifestyles.

Ambassador of Bangladesh Mr. Mohammad Sarwar Mahmood, ndc in his welcome remarks, characterized the seminar as a timely initiative of the Government of Bangladesh undertaken for the welfare of the Bangladeshi expatriate community. Noting that NCDs account for approximately 71 per cent of deaths in Bangladesh, he underscored the particular vulnerabilities faced by expatriates as a consequence of occupational stress, unhealthy lifestyles and limited access to healthcare services. The Ambassador further called for strengthened collaboration among community organisations, health partners, employers, relevant authorities for developing an inclusive, evidence-based and sustainable programme for the prevention and control of NCDs.

Dr. John Juliard L. Go, a healthcare expert for Noncommunicable Diseases and Injury Prevention in the Philippines, served as the chief guest and keynote speaker, outlining NCD risk factors and prevention strategies, followed by an interactive Q&A.

The seminar reaffirmed the Embassy’s commitment to advancing the health and well‑being of Bangladeshi nationals in the Philippines through sustained awareness, cooperation, and community engagement.

Ambassador of Bangladesh H.E. Mr. Mohammad Sarwar Mahmood, ndc paid an official visit to Iloilo from 09 to 11 August 2026. H.E. Ambassador was accompanied by Mr. Shah Md. Ashraful Alam Mohon, Counsellor & Head of Chancery; and Mr. M. M. Julker Naim Drobo, Second Secretary.

During the visit, Ambassador Mahmood delivered a keynote address at the Global Youth Ambassadors Model Conference (GYAMC) Iloilo 2026. Ambassador Mahmood also held fruitful meetings with Iloilo’s leadership, including Hon’ble Governor Arthur Defensor Jr., Hon’ble Vice Governor Nathalie Ann Debuque, Hon. Mayor Raisa Treñas, and Hon. Representative and Vice Chairperson of the Committee on Appropriations Ms Julienne Baronda.
The meetings discussed emerging trade and investment opportunities for Bangladesh’s Ready-Made Garments (RMG), pharmaceutical, and agricultural sectors, alongside potential collaborations in aquaculture, microfinance, health education, and the Philippines’ BPO and semiconductor industries. The Bangladesh Embassy, Manila reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral ties between Bangladesh and the Philippines at both national and provincial levels.
