Here are the totals from yesterday. We served sopas and pepperoni/hotdog + egg sandwiches with bottled water.

We had to cancel our usual weekend activities because of the weather alerts, but we wanted to make it up to our beneficiaries who had it worse than us, so we decided to conduct a special community kitchen activity yesterday.

During National Heroes Day, we're encouraged to think of all the heroes that made this country what it is today.

I like to think back into the mists of the pandemic, when people chose to contribute their goods and labor to community pantries (an obvious inspiration for IGS) instead of hoarding it through the lockdowns. I like to believe it's because they believed in a world where people help each other with whatever they have, a world not driven by greed but rather a shared humanity.

I believe heroism is seeing that a better world is possible, then working towards it instead of turning your eyes away. Sometimes it means holding our leaders accountable. Sometimes it's resisting the culture of "taking what's mine" at the expense of others. Sometimes it's standing up to the injustice in front of you instead of theoretically "standing up for justice". Sometimes it's protecting our humanity and its multifarious tastes from being thrown into the machine. Sometimes it's helping people whenever we can.

May we all practice heroism and stand up for what we believe in, in big ways or small, seen or unseen.

Today’s community kitchen activity has been CANCELLED due to the southwest monsoon rains. Please stay safe and evacuate if necessary, based on your local government guidelines.

It pains us every time this happens, and a lot more for our brothers and sisters in need. We hope to cook and prepare meals for them again when we’re able.
