The Philippine National Police (PNP) lauded the immediate response of police personnel that resulted in the arrest of five individuals allegedly involved in a violation of the Safe Spaces Act against a foreign tourist in Makati City on June 7.

According to reports, the victim, a 23-year-old Colombian national, sought assistance from police officers after allegedly experiencing acts of sexual harassment while walking along a street in Barangay Poblacion. Responding personnel promptly acted on the complaint, leading to the arrest of five male suspects, aged 18 to 23, shortly after the incident.

The case has been referred to the appropriate investigative and prosecutorial authorities for the filing of the corresponding charges for alleged violation of Republic Act No. 11313, or the Safe Spaces Act.

“Ang mabilis na pagresponde ng ating mga pulis ay nagpapakita ng ating patuloy na pangako na protektahan ang lahat ng tao sa ating bansa—maging Pilipino man o dayuhan. Walang puwang ang anumang uri ng harassment sa ating mga komunidad, at sisiguraduhin nating agad na matutugunan ang mga ganitong insidente sa paraang naaayon sa batas,” said PGen Nartatez.

He likewise emphasized the importance of encouraging victims and witnesses to immediately report incidents of harassment and other crimes to authorities.

“Patuloy nating hinihikayat ang publiko na makipagtulungan sa kapulisan. Ang maagap na pag-uulat ay mahalaga upang agad nating maaksyunan ang mga insidente at mapanagot ang mga lumalabag sa batas habang iginagalang ang kanilang mga karapatan sa ilalim ng ating legal na proseso,” he added.

The PNP said the accomplishment reflects its continuing efforts under the PNP Focused Agenda through enhanced police operations and community-oriented policing strategies aimed at ensuring safer public spaces. It also supports the broader vision of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to strengthen public safety, security, and the country’s reputation as a welcoming destination for both citizens and visitors.

The PNP remains committed to providing responsive law enforcement services and ensuring that public spaces remain safe and respectful for everyone, in line with the Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman.

PNP MOBILIZES OVER 2,000 PERSONNEL AS FULL-SCALE RESPONSE CONTINUES AFTER MINDANAO EARTHQUAKE

The Philippine National Police continues coordinated response operations following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck parts of Mindanao earlier today, as authorities maintain sustained monitoring, rescue assistance, and inter-agency coordination to ensure the safety and welfare of affected communities.

PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. has been continuously monitoring developments from the PNP Command Center, directing real-time validation of reports from the field and ensuring seamless coordination with concerned government agencies and local government units.

As of 1:00 PM, 2,092 PNP personnel have been deployed nationwide for augmentation support, including presence in evacuation centers, security of critical installations, and assistance to affected communities. A total of 545 evacuation centers have been opened, currently accommodating over 2,400 individuals and more than 500 families receiving temporary shelter and basic assistance. Search and rescue operations remain ongoing in coordination with partner agencies, particularly in areas under Police Regional Office 12.

Transport disruptions have been recorded, including cancelled flights and suspended sea travel, with around 360 passengers stranded in airports and over 470 passengers in seaports, alongside delayed land transport operations in affected routes. One airport facility has reported minor damage and is currently undergoing technical inspection, while several roads remain passable only to light vehicles and select bridges are under safety evaluation.

Several police facilities have also been affected, with four police stations and two regional headquarters buildings reporting varying degrees of damage. A total of 228 uniformed personnel and 13 non-uniformed personnel have been affected, and appropriate welfare and assistance measures are being provided while structural assessments are ongoing.

Despite the impact of the earthquake, the overall peace and order situation remains stable, with no major security incidents reported. Police visibility and assistance operations continue in evacuation areas to support local government units and ensure the safety of affected residents

PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. assured the public of the organization’s continued presence and readiness on the ground.

“Nandito ang PNP para sa mabilis at maayos na pagtugon. We are closely coordinating with all concerned agencies to ensure that help reaches our people as quickly as possible. Huwag po tayong mangamba, tuloy-tuloy ang ating monitoring at assistance operations,” he said.

The ongoing operations are aligned with the PNP Focused Agenda under Enhanced Managing Police Operations, ensuring unified command, rapid deployment, and efficient coordination across all units responding to the situation. This approach reinforces the organization’s commitment to timely and organized disaster response.

As assessments and humanitarian operations continue, the PNP urges the public to remain calm, stay informed through official channels, and avoid sharing unverified reports that may cause confusion. Additional updates will be released as validated information becomes available from field units.

The Philippine National Police reaffirms its commitment to serve and protect the Filipino people during this critical time, standing firmly with the national government under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and the public it serves, guided by the principle of “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman.”

The Philippine National Police (PNP), in coordination with partner law enforcement and customs authorities, successfully intercepted a significant shipment of suspected smuggled ci******es during an operation in Zamboanga City on the evening of June 7, 2026.

The joint operation conducted along Luste Drive, Barangay Sta. Catalina led to the discovery of a blue Mazda minivan without a license plate loaded with assorted ci******es believed to be in violation of customs laws and regulations.

Upon noticing the presence of operatives, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot toward a nearby area. Despite immediate pursuit, the suspect managed to escape using the terrain and limited visibility.

The operation was carried out by personnel from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group – Zamboanga City Field Unit (CIDG ZCFU), the Bureau of Customs Region IX, and the Zamboanga City Police Station 11, reflecting continued inter-agency coordination in securing borders and preventing illicit trade. This initiative is aligned with the PNP Focused Agenda, particularly under Enhanced Managing Police Operations, which strengthens intelligence-driven and coordinated enforcement actions nationwide.

A thorough inspection of the abandoned vehicle revealed multiple boxes and reams of ci******es suspected to have been unlawfully transported. The recovered items, along with the vehicle, were immediately turned over to the Bureau of Customs Regional Office IX for proper inventory, examination, and legal disposition.

The total estimated value of the confiscated items reached nearly ₱4 million, highlighting the scale of the attempted illicit transport.

Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. commended the operating units for their swift and coordinated action, emphasizing that the PNP remains focused on proactive law enforcement.

“Patuloy nating pinalalakas ang ating presensya at koordinasyon sa lahat ng operasyon laban sa iligal na aktibidad. This is a clear example of how teamwork and alertness can stop unlawful activities before they harm our economy,” the Chief PNP said, noting that such accomplishments reflect a more responsive and disciplined police service.

Authorities continue to trace the identity of the individual who fled during the operation, while further investigation is ongoing to determine possible networks behind the shipment.

The PNP reiterated its commitment to sustained operations against smuggling and other illegal activities, in support of national security and economic protection, as it advances the vision of Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman.
