Here’s a look back at how the Asian Rights Fair (ARF) – Manila 2026 wrapped up last week!

The final day featured business-to-business (B2B) rights trading meetings among participating publishers and publishing leaders from across Asia. Serving as a regional marketplace, the event facilitated meaningful cross-border connections not only between Philippine and foreign publishers, but also among international delegates themselves.

The one-on-one meetings yielded promising outcomes, spanning rights negotiations, distribution agreements, and collaborative project deals. As ARF Manila 2026 comes to a close, we celebrate the new partnerships formed and the lessons shared, and look forward to the continued growth of the Asian publishing market.

Huge thanks to our participating delegates and to the Book Development Association of the Philippines for strengthening our shared commitment to advancing our country’s publishing industry!

Catch this week at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF), September 13 to 18, Stand 5F30, International Collectives, ADNEC.

Philippine publishing goes to meet the Arab market at one of the Gulf's major book fairs, and last year's showing brought publishers from Egypt, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan to our table. We are back to build on that.

The market is already here. Abu Dhabi has at least three Philippine curriculum schools teaching DepEd's K-12 program, with thousands more Filipino children enrolled across the UAE. Add close to a million kababayans in the country, plus Arab readers who have taken to our stories about family, faith, and home, and the shelf space follows.

We are looking for partners to carry Filipino titles in their bookstores and distribution networks, and our team is ready to connect.

Thank you, Secretary Sonny Angara, for the work behind the country's improving book access.

Reading posted the Philippines' largest gain in PISA 2025. Results like that hold only if the books keep coming.

Sec. Angara has spent years making sure they do. He authored the New Government Procurement Act in the Senate, then took office at DepEd Philippines as it took effect. Quality is now scored on its own, apart from price, so a carefully made book is no longer outbid by a cheaper one. DepEd also buys titles already on the market rather than ordering manuscripts written from scratch, a shift that trimmed procurement-to-delivery from roughly 15 months to 6 and gave Filipino publishers a buyer who actually shows up.

The results came quickly. DepEd secured 105 textbook titles in a single cycle (2025), a 289% jump from the previous year, and enters 2026 with ₱29.16 billion set aside for 103.9 million learning resources, its steepest funding climb in years.

NBDB has worked directly with his office on these fronts. We're glad for the partnership, and for a leader who followed through.
