The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – Romblon Provincial Statistical Office successfully kicked off the celebration of the 37th National Statistics Month (NSM) through a meaningful combination of environmental advocacy, community engagement, and statistical information dissemination held in Brgy. Mapula, Romblon, Romblon.
The kickoff activities began with the STATWalk, bringing participants from Brgy. Agnay to the mangrove area of Brgy. Mapula. More than just a walk, the activity highlighted the importance of collective action in promoting both environmental sustainability and the meaningful use of statistics in community development.
Upon reaching the mangrove area, participants took part in a Mangrove Planting and Coastal Cleanup Activity, resulting in the planting of approximately 280 mangrove seedlings. The activity demonstrated the shared commitment of government agencies, local government units, and other stakeholders to environmental protection and community stewardship.
The activities continued at the Mapula Covered Court with the 37th NSM Opening Ceremony, where participants were treated to engaging and interactive activities designed to make statistics more accessible, relevant, and enjoyable. Among the highlights were “FLASH THE DATA” and “DATA OR CHIKA,” which encouraged participants to test their knowledge, appreciate statistical facts, and engage in lively discussions about data and its relevance to everyday life.
The opening ceremony also featured statistical and information dissemination activities covering various programs and statistical products of the PSA, including the 2024 Census of Population and Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS), Civil Registration Services, and the Philippine Identification System (National ID). These activities provided participants with useful information on how official statistics and PSA services contribute to evidence-based planning, effective governance, and improved public service delivery.
The celebration was strengthened by the active participation of various national government agencies, including the Philippine National Police – Romblon Provincial Police Office (PNP Romblon PPO), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Romblon, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Romblon.
Several local government units and barangays also joined the celebration, including Agnay, Sawang, Mapula, Lonos, Capaclan, Barangays I, II, III, and IV, among others. Their participation underscored the importance of collaboration among national government agencies, local governments, communities, and other stakeholders in promoting the use of statistics for development.
The activity was also graced by Hon. Gerard M. Montojo, Municipal Mayor of Romblon, Romblon, whose presence highlighted the local government's support for the celebration and for initiatives that promote community participation, environmental responsibility, and the importance of data in local governance.
Furthermore, PSA Romblon conducted a Gift-Giving and Feeding Program for the day care pupils of Barangay Mapula.The activity aimed to share joy and extend support to young children in the community while promoting the spirit of compassion, generosity, and community involvement. The day care pupils received gifts prepared by the PSA Romblon personnel, bringing smiles and excitement to the children.
The celebration also featured the delivery of National ID services and the mobile acceptance of requests for civil registry documents, bringing essential PSA services closer to the residents of Barangay Mapula. These initiatives provided community members with convenient access to PhilSys-related services and allowed them to submit requests for important civil registry documents without having to travel to the PSA office, reinforcing PSA Romblon’s commitment to accessible and people-centered public service.
The 37th National Statistics Month kickoff in Romblon served as a reminder that statistics are not merely numbers — they are tools that help communities understand their situation, make informed decisions, and plan better for the future.
Through activities that combined “lakad, tanim, linis, at datos,” the PSA Romblon and its partners demonstrated that celebrating statistics can go beyond the classroom or the office—it can reach communities, protect the environment, and inspire people to become more informed and engaged citizens.
