The Scientific Career System proudly congratulates ๐ฟ๐ง. ๐๐จ๐ฉ๐๐ง ๐ฝ. ๐๐ก๐ค๐ง๐๐จ of the DA-Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) on her upgrade to ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ฆ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ถ๐๐ ๐๐. ๐
Dr. Flores leads the PCCโs Animal Breeding and Genomics Section and oversees the PCC Molecular Genetics Laboratory and the Central Data Management Unit, which was established under her visionary leadership.
She also serves as the PCC National Genetic Improvement Program Coordinator, managing the implementation of the national water buffalo breeding program. Recently, she was appointed as a member of the newly created Department of Agriculture Genetics Board of Ruminants, where she provides technical guidance on policies and breeding strategies for cattle, goats, and sheep.
Among her notable contributions are her pioneering works in animal genetics, genomics, and DNA-based technologies, including Verisireยฎ and specialized genetic testing for cattle, buffalo, and swine. She has also spearheaded the development of specialized dairy and meat lines of riverine buffaloes, namely PCC Dalisay and PCC Matipuno.
Dr. Flores likewise directed the first whole-genome shotgun sequencing of the Philippine swamp buffalo using the PacBio Sequel II platform, producing the highest-quality assembly for Bubalus bubalis to date. This landmark genomic research surpasses existing reference sequences and provides an important resource for local and international researchers studying heat tolerance, fitness, economic traits, and other key characteristics.
