On the 28th May 2026, the Eswatini Environment Authority participated in the EU Bushfire Schools Festival 2026, held under the theme *“Art in Action: Future in the Making.”* The festival brought together young people from across the country to explore how creativity can inspire innovation, sustainability and positive environmental action.

At our interactive stall, learners put their creativity into practice by transforming everyday materials into useful items. Participants designed homemade flower pots, promoting the importance of tree planting and greening our communities, while also creating friendship bracelets from recycled paper to demonstrate that waste can be a valuable resource.

These hands-on activities highlighted simple but impactful ways to address environmental challenges, particularly the growing waste crisis, while encouraging sustainable habits among young people.

The future of environmental stewardship lies in the hands of our youth. By nurturing creativity, responsibility and innovation today, we are helping build a greener and more sustainable Eswatini for generations to come.

Today, the Eswatini Environment Authority participated in the launch of EU Green Week 2026 in Eswatini under the theme “Investing in a Nature Positive Economy,”. This event took place at Hilton Garden Inn with a conclusion of a tree planting activity in Extention 3 Mbabane.

We reflect on the strong partnership between the Eswatini Environment Authority and the European Union in advancing environmental sustainability. Together, we have driven impactful initiatives including the EU Waste Challenge Campaign promoting circular economy solutions and the 2025 Temvelo Awards EU Young Eco-Hero mentorship programme empowering young environmental leaders.

The Executive Director also reminded us that our planet remains fragile, and the environmental challenges we face today require all of us to work together. Protecting biodiversity, restoring ecosystems, and building climate resilience cannot be achieved by one institution alone. Government, communities, businesses, civil society, and especially young people must unite to ensure that the environment continues to sustain present and future generations.

On this World Biodiversity Day 2026, we celebrate the rich ecosystems that sustain life, support communities, and strengthen climate resilience. 🌍🌿

This year’s theme reminds us that protecting biodiversity means restoring degraded ecosystems, conserving wetlands, managing invasive species, and promoting sustainable land use for future generations.

Biodiversity in Eswatini is not only part of our environment but it is also central to our culture and heritage. We all have a role to play in building a sustainable future for our country 🇸🇿

On Saturday, the 17th May 2026, The Eswatini Environment Authority conducted a community engagement visit to Mpholi community under the Ludzeludze Inkhundla, fostering meaningful dialogue on sustainable development and environmental stewardship.

Discussions focused on the importance of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) in guiding responsible development, the protection of environmentally sensitive areas such as wetlands, and the critical ecosystem services these natural resources provide to communities. Emphasis was also placed on the risks and impacts associated with environmental degradation and pollution.

We extend our appreciation to the Mpholi community for their openness, active participation, and commitment to engaging with the Authority. Collaborative efforts such as these are essential as we work together towards a sustainable future that safeguards both our environment and the well-being of present and future generations.

The Bring Your Fire Live Dialogues, one of the key activities towards the main festival celebration, was today held at UNESWA, Luyengo Campus where the EEA was represented by Ms Zandisile Howe.

The dialogue was conducted under the theme, 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲: 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀.
