NO DUFF!

Yesterday was planned as a day of meetings, planning and debriefing with Tonga Fire & Emergency Services.

After returning to the Tanoa International Dateline Hotel for what was meant to be a relaxing afternoon, our Team Leader received a call asking the VTT to assist other guests staying at the hotel.

Members of the Anglican Diocese of Polynesia are in Tonga for their 67th General Synod and are also staying at the Tanoa. While members of the group were out whale watching, one of their boats sank.

Thankfully, no one was seriously injured, although several people were transported to hospital for observation.

The Tonga Emergency Services - Rotary VTT met the group on their return to the hotel and assisted with first aid and welfare support.

This morning, Team Leader Paul and Paramedic Monty met with the group again to check on their welfare before they began their journeys home.

Before leaving, the Bishops, Chaplains and leaders of the group led a prayer, thanking and blessing the VTT team for the help and support they had provided.

It was a very special and humbling moment for our team, and certainly not something we expected when we started the day.

The Commissioner of Tonga Fire and Emergency Services, Mr. Viliami Tu'ihalamaka together with Semisi Tapueluelu, is participating in **AFAC 2026**, currently being held in Melbourne, Australia.

AFAC 2026 provides an important platform for fire and emergency services leaders, professionals, and organizations from across the region to come together, share knowledge and experiences, strengthen partnerships, and explore new developments in fire and emergency management.

Their participation represents an excellent opportunity for **Tonga Fire and Emergency Services** to build stronger regional relationships, exchange knowledge and experiences, and learn from international best practices that can contribute to strengthening fire and emergency services in Tonga.
