BOBS needs you for Abilene Gives on May 7th!

IT’S THAT SPECIAL TIME AGAIN!

Members of the B.O.B.S. Board of Directors have joined together to make this year’s Abilene Gives extra-exciting. Our Board’s generous matching fund will be for the morning of Abilene Gives. The afternoon also has a matching fund to continue the momentum.

As Christ calls us in John 21 to “feed His sheep,” B.O.B.S. continues to serve our most vulnerable friends in Abilene every weekday morning. Guests often express gratitude for having a warm place to sit and visit while enjoying coffee and breakfast. Thanks to your generosity in the past, almost 18,000 breakfast meals and 34,000 sandwiches were shared in 2023. We are so grateful.

B.O.B.S. is challenged by significant increases in costs and even the availability of our regular menu items. Times of uncertainty always call us to trust in God. We are thankful for the Abilene Gives opportunity to raise needed funds for food, and hope that you will prayerfully consider supporting B.O.B.S. during Abilene Gives 2024.

We will post a reminder shortly before May 7th to provide more details about how you can give.

Christ calls us in John 21 to “feed His sheep”. B.O.B.S. continues to serve our friends in Abilene every weekday morning -- especially those who are most vulnerable. This important ministry has blessed people for almost 27 years! Many guests express a grateful “thank you” for having a warm place to sit and visit while enjoying coffee and breakfast. Over 15,000 breakfast meals were served and almost 30,000 sandwiches were also shared in 2022.

B.O.B.S. is challenged by significant increases in costs and even the availability of our regular menu items at times. But, times of uncertainty always call us to trust in God. Now is one of these times. We again anticipate a great annual spring fundraising event, and hope that you will prayerfully consider supporting B.O.B.S.

ABILENE GIVES: On Tuesday, May 2, 2023, B.O.B.S. will participate in the Community Foundation of Abilene's (C.F.A.) annual Abilene Gives event, a 12-hour online giving event. Donations will be “stretched” by the C.F.A.’s amplifying funds. You can make a donation in any of the THREE following ways:

1. “Give where you live” on May 2. You can donate online to B.O.B.S. at abilenegives.org on May 2 between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., and your dollars will be stretched with bonus funds and prizes raised by the C.F.A.

2. Early Giving. Early Giving is from April 24 to May 2 at 8 a.m.. This enables donors the option of making their donations at abilenegives.org in advance of the giving day.

3. Rather not give online? Checks can be made payable to B.O.B.S. with "Abilene Gives" on the memo line. Gifts by check, including cash, must be received by B.O.B.S. on or before May 2, 2023. Mail your check to B.O.B.S., P.O. Box 5911, Abilene TX 79608.

Abilene Gives: Times of uncertainty always call us to trust in God. Now is one of these times. As we approach our annual spring fundraising event, our hope is that you will prayerfully consider supporting B.O.B.S.

On Tuesday, May 3, 2022, B.O.B.S. will be participating in the Community Foundation of Abilene's (C.F.A.) annual Abilene Gives event, a 24-hour online giving event. Donations will be “stretched” by the C.F.A.’s amplifying funds. You can make a donation in any of the THREE following ways:

1. “Give where you live” on May 3! You can donate online to B.O.B.S. at abilenegives.org on May 3 between 12 a.m. and 11:55 p.m., and your dollars will be stretched with bonus funds and prizes raised by the C.F.A.!

2. Schedule your gift in advance! You can also schedule your gift in advance of the giving day between April 25 and May 2 by giving online to B.O.B.S. at abilenegives.org.

3. Rather not give online? If you prefer to write a check, please date the check for May 3, make it out to Community Foundation of Abilene with the memo “Abilene Gives – Breakfast on Beech Street,” and mail your check to B.O.B.S., P.O. Box 5911, Abilene TX 79608. Checks MUST be made out to CFA with B.O.B.S mentioned in the memo line and received by noon on May 3 in order to count toward the Abilene Gives event.

B.O.B.S. has persevered through the COVID-19 crisis and has made necessary adjustments to ensure our guests continue to receive support and encouragement. Inside dining has returned, and many guests express a grateful “thank you” for having a warm place to sit and visit while enjoying coffee and breakfast. Over 12,000 breakfast meals and more than 24, 000 sandwiches were served in 2021!

…A message from the BOBS Board…

Matthew 15:33 says “His disciples answered, “Where could we get enough bread in this remote place to feed such a crowd?” We believe a little miracle happens each weekday at BOBS, and know God is at work through our efforts.

BOBS is well into calendar year 2022 and is blessed in many ways as we strive to share Jesus’ love and hope to our guests. Just to recap 2021, BOBS provided a hot breakfast and sack lunch to over 12,300 guests. That adds up to over 24,000 sandwiches! The encouragement these meals provide would not be possible if not for our great volunteers and other donors who support BOBS in many ways.

BOBS welcomed two new members to the Board in 2021. Joe Hawkins, representing Highland Church of Christ, is new to the Board. And, because First Baptist Church continues to generously provide the space for BOBS to serve, we have included Sandi Rainwater as a Board member to represent them. Welcome Joe and Sandi.
