Today is United Way of Summit & Medina's Day of Action, and we are so grateful for this fun group of volunteers who dedicated their time to ACCESS! Despite a little drizzle, this crew brought nothing but positivity. πŸ’œ

Thanks to a generous donation of beautiful flowers from Geissinger's Plant Hut, volunteers spent the day potting blooms and helping beautify our shelter for the summer. Their gifts will help create a welcoming, uplifting environment for the women and children we serve.

Thank you to United Way and Geissinger's Plant Hut for investing in our community and helping make ACCESS feel even more like home. We couldn't do it without you! 🌸🌿

A bus pass to an interview. A hot meal after a long day. A visit to the Care Clinic. Fresh bedding for a good night's sleep.

Small costs create the small moments that lead women and children to safety and stability. That is exactly why becoming a monthly giver is one of the best ways to support ACCESS. The cost of your vending machine snack or specialty coffee can be a family’s next step toward a brighter future.

The first six months of your monthly support will be matched by a generous donor, so your impact is DOUBLED. Join the Lotus League today and help create lasting change for women and children experiencing homelessness across Summit County, Ohio.

Although the State of the Shelter Breakfast has passed, we still want to share the powerful story of Alice Scott, recipient of the Lynn M. Budnick Empowered Woman Award.

Alice entered the ACCESS shelter in 2023 after relocating to Akron to escape domestic violence. During this time, she endured the loss of her son, a devastating house fire, and a custody battle for her nephews while caring for her children and grandson. Since completing the program, she has been permanently housed with a thriving family. Alice’s resilience in overcoming profound adversity makes her the epitome of an empowered woman. πŸ’œ

For those who missed it, Dr. Deborah Plate is a Clinical Associate Director at the Center for Family Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic, where she trains future family physicians. We were so honored to recognize Dr. Plate with the Terrence J. Steel Community Excellence Award for her incredible commitment to ACCESS and the Summit County community.

Her passion for service is best defined by her long-term involvement and advocacy at ACCESS, where she serves as a volunteer and board member. Through her leadership, Dr. Plate has helped bring on-site care to women and children at ACCESS, while exposing medical students early in their education to community service in hopes of inspiring them to carry that commitment forward. Thank you, Dr. Plate, for everything you do. 🩺
