Meet Robert Mornan: Master of Information Science (M.S.I.S.) degree candidate at the University at Albany (UAlbany) College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security, and Cybersecurity (CEHC). In 2020, Mornan received a dual B.S. degree in Computer Science and Cybersecurity Risk Management. Mornan is enrolled in UAlbany’s 4+1 Data Analytics degree program at CEHC, which combines the senior undergraduate year and first year of graduate school, thereby allowing students to receive an M.S. in five years rather than six.

Mornan shared that UAlbany has offered many opportunities to practically apply newly learned technical skill, become involved on campus, and network with like-minded individuals. In his current position as a Touhey Fellow at Albany Public Library, Mornan applies the informatics skills he has learned in the M.S.I.S. program to real world scenarios.

Throughout his time at UAlbany, Mornan has served as a Residential Advisor, Purple and Gold Ambassador, Peer Educator, and an Orientation Leader. He also participated in a research project in conjunction with the State University of New York Research Foundation; a project with the goal of increasing middle school students’ digital literacy through the utilization of computer programs. Mornan is confident that his engagement in each of these experiences made him to grow as person, allowed him to take chances, and taught him to become comfortable with being uncomfortable. After completing his M.S.I.S., Mornan plans to pursue a doctorate in leadership to continue to help others.

⚾🎮 Our students recently partnered with the Tri-City ValleyCats to create interactive games for fans to play during home games. Developed and taught by Vice Dean Jennifer Goodall, the capstone Game Design & Development course gave students valuable hands-on experience in game design, teamwork and real-world client collaboration.

Find out why students learned to “expect the unexpected” through this one-of-a-kind experience ⬇️

This semester, undergraduate students in the University at Albany’s Department of Information Sciences & Technology put their game design skills to the test—on the baseball field.
