Today is National Dump the Pump Day! A day that encourages individuals to ditch their gas-guzzling vehicles and instead opt to ride their local public transit, such as a bus or train.

With gas at ~$5/gallon, it’s a holiday we all need.

Better connected communities are stronger communities. This legislative session, NYPTA is proud to have partnered with champions in the legislature like Senator Jeremy Cooney and Assemblyman Bill Magnarelli to fight for stronger public transit across New York State.

We are grateful to have leaders on the state level who recognize the importance of funding systems that so many rely on, and we look forward to continuing working with our elected officials to further support reliable and affordable transportation options to serve even more New Yorkers. 🚏

🚨If you’re selling a budget focused on affordability, that budget absolutely must include an increased investment in public transit. Public transit by nature is affordable; by fully funding upstate systems, our elected officials can send the signal that they really care about the concerns of their constituents.

It’s why we’re calling on the Legislature and Governor to recognize the importance of funding upstate transit systems and include a 15% increase in State Transit Operating Assistance (STOA) for all upstate and downstate non-MTA transit systems in the final state budget.

🚨An increased investment in public transit is an investment in our environment and New York State’s battle against climate change. Mass transportation cuts down on emissions, takes cars off the road, and reduces wear and tear on our roads.

Public transit is the smart choice for so many New Yorkers; it’s the smart choice for the environment, and it’s a smart investment of taxpayer money.

We’re calling on the Legislature and Governor to recognize the importance of funding upstate transit systems and include a 15% increase in State Transit Operating Assistance (STOA) for all upstate and downstate non-MTA transit systems in the final state budget.
