🤯BREAKING NEWS from Roc News… because nothing says “smart planning” like rejecting a study and doubling down instead.
An amendment to repeal New York’s electric school bus mandate — or at the very least, study whether it’s actually feasible — was rejected. Every single Democrat in the State Senate voted no. Apparently, asking questions before forcing massive costs 💴 on schools is now controversial.
Just a reminder: schools are required to stop buying diesel buses 🚌 by 2027 and completely phase them out by 2035. Don’t worry though — the Governor generously “allowed” districts to apply for two separate two-year extensions… which many already have. Because even the people expected to implement this know it’s not exactly realistic.
So instead of slowing down and figuring out what actually works, we’re speeding ahead with mandates that districts can’t afford, infrastructure that doesn’t exist at scale, and timelines that keep getting quietly pushed back.
But sure — everything’s fine. I’m sure skyrocketing costs for schools will magically not end up on taxpayers.
